As a Hispanic person, it kind of really pisses me off when people apologize for their privilege. Like, what the fuck? Your circumstances are something you’re born into, whether you’re a rich white person or a white person in the shittiest of circumstances, or whether you’re a rich minority or a minority in the shittiest of circumstances. And the term ‘white guilt’ is infuriating- people should be comfortable with their heritage and not feeling bad because they feel like they’ve got it easier. How infuriating does it sound if we call it ‘black guilt’ or ‘Asian guilt’? Also, the admittance thing into schools? That’s the complete opposite of the trend in the vast majority of schools. Affirmative action has led to startling statistics like a qualified black person being 4.44 times more likely to get into a US service academy than an equally qualified white person. And forget about Asian people who are heavily discriminated against by affirmative action. Personally, I’m very insulted that they think that, because of my ethnicity, they need to add points to my test scores so I can compete with white people and Asian people. Don’t feel bad for your race. And no one is automatically privileged.
