I think you missed the point.
The article uses the armpit as an example or symbol of the lengths the media goes to in order to convince us what physical "perfection" is "supposed" to look like.
You're right, unfortunately, that it's a lot easier to shop ethically if you have enough money to choose freely.
However, as the article points out at the end, secondhand or thrift store shopping is a great option for those without many resources.
