Most comments I’ve read focus on the heinousness of the crime, which is very heinous. But, I want to take this opportunity to make a point about mental health. Something or, more likely, many things drove him to get to this point. He has a criminal record, which shows he had no interest in following laws or obeying orders. But, he was in a relationship that produced a child, so, at some point he wasn’t all bad. My question is, why didn’t he get the mental help he needed early on? He clearly showed signs of being violent and in hindsight, the signs were there that it was going to eventually come to a killing. We as a society look at these stories and start throwing rocks, when, instead, we need to start paying attention to people and intervene before they go off the deep end. It’s easy to say coulda, shoulda, woulda, but what about prevention?
