How is this asking for “special treatment” at all. They’re actually asking for the same treatment, e.g., that the “romeo and juliet” exception that this would clearly fall under if they were a boy-girl couple also be applied here. It’s only to bigots that “equal treatment” = “special treatment”

Interesting… I wasn’t aware that any states had different ages of consent for heterosexual relationships versus homosexual relationships. I’d be interested to see how those law disparities could possibly be constitutionally valid.

The law also says that if the two parties to the relationship are close enough in age (I believe it’s within 3 years, but it might be within 2) when the relationship starts AND the oldest person in the relationship is under 17 when it starts (both of which are applicable here) it will not be considered statutory rape. So you’re right. The law IS the law.
