I am Latina and I disagree. The word is a slur, period. I know it’s often used casually in Spanish, but maybe that isn’t right either, you know?

I also come from a Latin background, and always heard the word used derisively. Of course, this doesn’t negate what you said, but the word usage doesn’t become inoffensive just because some people use it casually. Plenty of English speakers throw around “faggot”.

It feels incomplete to you because it is.
