10 Disney Characters Who Should Definitely Get Their Own Live-Action Movies

Step aside, Cinderella!

Cinderella hits theaters this weekend, and Disney already has future live-action plans for Beauty and the Beast and Dumbo.

They certainly aren't done with this live-action trend....

But retelling the same stories gets boring. If Disney execs really want to get our attention, they should consider giving the live-action treatment to these lesser-known characters:

1. Madame Medusa (The Rescuers)

It’s been decades since Madame Medusa first appeared on the big screen, but The Rescuers was a hit back in 1977, and its follow-up The Rescuers Down Under is one of Disney’s most popular sequels.

Even fellow swamp dwellers call her “trashy,” and Madame Medusa will straight up shoot a bitch! She's one of the most underappreciated Disney villains and should absolutely star in her own spin-off film.

Think something along the lines of Pawn Stars meets Crocodile Dundee meets Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Just picture the costumes! The hair and makeup! The scenes of her driving!

2. Andy (Toy Story)

Disney

Toy Story and its sequels followed the lives of Andy's toys as he grew from a child into a young man. When we met Andy he was a wee boy of only 6 years old, but by Toy Story 3 we saw him taking on college.

Following the success of Boyhood, I say it's time to give the young Mr. Andy Davis his own live-action movie taking a closer look at the life of the man behind the toys.

3. LeFou (Beauty and the Beast)

LeFou is an oddball, clearly, but he’s also pretty obviously in love with Gaston. It would be groundbreaking if Disney were to highlight this in his live-action movie. Imagine it: LeFou, the first out-and-proud Disney protagonist.

It wouldn’t be a lighthearted gay love story, though, as LeFou and Gaston seem to have a pretty unhealthy relationship. How many times in the original Beauty and the Beast do we see Gaston hitting and even choking LeFou?

Wouldn’t it be inspiring to see a movie where LeFou stopped putting up with Gaston's abuse? Think Jennifer Lopez in Enough. Maybe then, after distancing himself from this toxic relationship, we could see LeFou find true love in that poor provincial town.

4. Lady Tremaine (Cinderella)

I know what you're thinking: Lady Tremaine is already getting the live-action treatment in the new Cinderella movie. But why stop there? I say she deserves her own prequel.

Lady T is one of the original wicked stepmothers, and is considered one of the most hateable Disney villains. She’s cruel, cold, and doesn’t really have any redeeming qualities. She’s also power-hungry, manipulative, and desperately wants one of her daughters to become a rich and famous queen.

We Disney fans deserve to know why! What drove her to be this monster that she's become? She was apparently a “woman of good family,” but what happened to those family members? Who’s the father of her daughters, and what happened in her life that drove her to become such a horrible monster?

If Cate Blanchett is still available in a few years, perhaps she’d be interested in reprising her role. But if not, you know who’d be perfect to play Lady T on the big screen? Kris Jenner!

5. Shanti (The Jungle Book)

She’s known as “the girl who lured Mowgli into the Man Village,” but Shanti is so much more than that. Even at a young age she clearly knew how to get what she wanted, and wasn’t afraid of using all of her assets in order to do so. It’s easy to imagine that Mowgli and Shanti would get married and have a few kids.

But is that something that Shanti would really want?

Honestly, she seems more like the kinda gal who would want to experience life a bit more before settling down. Jungle boys are hot at first, but that shit gets old. Can you imagine a live-action movie where Shanti leaves Mowgli and the “Man Village” behind to get a degree in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Yale? Talk about setting a good example for today's youth.

6. Lucius (The Incredibles)

Disney

Frozone didn't get nearly enough screen time in The Incredibles. His superpowers are awesome, and the movie could be an icy holiday release to take advantage of all the winter wonderland hype.

Maybe with a Frozen crossover? Like Elsa vs. Frozone in an epic ice battle? In IMAX!

7. Fa Zhou (Mulan)

Those eyes have a story to tell, child.

We hear him referred to as a war hero, but little else is known about Fa Zhou. Like what battle he was involved in, and what caused his limp?

Fa Zhou should definitely star in a Mulan live-action prequel. It could be a war movie with a strong romantic subplot (featuring a young Fa Li).

8. Carlotta (The Little Mermaid)

Disney

Obviously the fan favorite for a live-action take on The Little Mermaid would be Ursula. But how likely is it that a movie like that would make it through production? All the special effects would be a nightmare.

Carlotta is a more doable choice, logistically speaking. Plus, Disney execs can count on seats being filled as long as the movie answers one crucial question...

How the hell did Carlotta get Cinderella's dress and what did she do with the white bandana?

9. Prince Achmed (Aladdin)

Disney

He's a relatively minor character in Aladdin and was described as "overdressed and self-absorbed."

But he did spend an entire night in the palace with Princess Jasmine and her father. What exactly happened? Why did it take Jasmine a full 24 hours to decide she didn't like Prince Achmed? He must have some redeeming qualities, right?

10. Thomas (Pocahontas)

Disney

Thomas developed significantly as a character during Pocahontas, especially for a supporting role.

When we first meet him, Thomas is saying good-bye to his parents, and is a naive, unskilled soldier. But by the end of the film he's seen taking leadership and even calls for the arrest of Governor Ratcliffe.

Best of all, Thomas is super dreamy. If they cast a likable actor, and include a few shirtless scenes, plenty of us Disney fans will buy tickets.
