The true comedy is that we Americans choose to spend $$$ on a ticket, spend more $$$ to check our luggage and then subject ourselves to TSA scrutiny for the privilege of flying in aluminum tubes with such weird and borderline-skanky people. Did I mention that meal time is a few notches below feeding time in prison (at least convicts get more for dinner than a bag of nuts and a Diet Pepsi). If I can help it (e.g. the distance is short enough), I will take the train before I hop on a plane. I think that Amtrak is worth less the hassle for the simple reason that I can move around the train for personal space. On the plane, I am stuck until I get to my destination. Amtrak may have its shortcomings, but it can often be much cheaper than flying - especially when factoring in the cost of checking bags on planes… Don’t get me started on how the airlines have a lot less leg room and are sparking air rage fights over reclining seats.
