Incredible article! I shared it with my fellow horror fan-friends as well as Mark Patton himself.
I’m a super huge horror fan and this was eye-opening for me since a lot of my fellow fans identify themselves as gay. Even the characters with which they so often identify, I believe, hold significance. Despite the struggle of gays, I also think the sentence that reads, “Society is frightened of you, and rather than try to assuage those fears, you wear your terrifying queerness as a badge of honor”(minus “queerness”, perhaps replaced my “uniqueness”) could also very well explain why so many straight individuals who feel like social outcasts turn to horror as well. Yes, while this may seem to some as “superciliously philosophic immersion” in “nominally important(but just annoying) stuff”, I think there is weight behind an article like this.
