For the last few weeks we have started a backstage type series to give our readers a look at what goes on behind the curtain and how things have developed over the years. We explored the elements and process of lighting design and now we are going to take a look at how sound design has been an intricate part of the theatrical process long before the invention of the technologies we have today.
Last week we focused on some of the aspects that make lighting design an important part of a Las Vegas show. We discussed what the lighting designer does, and some of the techniques he or she will employ when creating a lighting setting up for a show. Since there are many levels to lighting a show, we were not able to explain everything last week. Today we will go further into the second part of lighting design and that is the hanging, focusing and cuing the lights. These three things round out the full lighting set-up and bring a new level of visualization to the performance.
There is so much that goes into Las Vegas show production. Audiences see the result of hundreds, sometimes thousands of hours of work and rarely get a glimpse into how their favorite shows get to that final, polished state. Beginning today we want to offer a look behind the curtain at some of the processes that go in to putting a Vegas spectacular together. Every so often we will highlight a particular area of stage production. For some it will offer a chance to learn something new and maybe even start on a path to working in theater, for others it will allow them a peak into a world few get to see.
