This Aptitude Test Will Determine Your New Quarantine Hobby

You should do what everyone else has been doing for the past month: bake! It doesn't matter if it's brownies or sourdough bread (but don't, like, start with sourdough)—you just gotta find a solid recipe and start baking! It's relaxing _and_ productive!

Cross stitching is textile art for those who are maybe a little too inexperienced or Type A for any other kind. You can buy a pattern or make your own, and then it's just filling in the little squares with x's. So simple and yet so satisfying.

I know that winter has ended, but it's time for you to take up knitting or crocheting. Or both! Do a little research to figure out which one is more your style and then get started on some scarves and hot pads!

It's the perfect time. _Animal Crossing_  just came out, and if my mom can play it, so can you. You'll be a gamer in no time.

Video Gaming

It's trendy, silly, great exercise, and fun to show off. There's no downside to [learning a TikTok dance](https://www.buzzfeed.com/ajanibazile/tiktok-dances-to-learn)! I recommend starting with "Say So."

TikTok Dancing

It's exercise, but it's relaxing and easy to do indoors! It's also super easy to find beginner yoga routines online, so grab a mat and get going!

Yoga

Maybe you want to try a Bob Ross tutorial, maybe a paint-by-number, or maybe you just want to freestyle. No matter how you do it, you'll end up with a beautiful piece of art to display!

Painting

It could be Sorry and Monopoly, or you could try games like Settlers of Catan and Dungeons & Dragons. You _will_ probably need people to play with, either in person with your quarantine buddies or over video calls.

Board/Tabletop Gaming

It's the perfect relaxing hobby: You do some relaxing melting and scent-choosing, and then you end up with something you can use to relax even more!

Candle Making

Whether you're into poetry or novels, now's your chance to finally write that big work of art that's locked in your head. It doesn't have to be something you want to publish—if you've always wanted to rewrite the _Star Wars_ sequels, that's cool, too.

Creative Writing

This may seem intimidating, but here's a great intro to fashion design: Take some old clothes that you never wear anyway, and try to come up with some cool ways to upcycle them! Change the fit of that sweater, turn those jeans into shorts, or make a shirt into a skirt! Eventually, you'll build the skills and confidence to tackle bigger projects like making your own clothes!

Fashion Design

The ukulele is portable, has a lovely sound, and, as far as instruments go, is relatively inexpensive. Find some online classes and tap into that inner musician I know is inside of you.

It's worth looking up some online classes or finding an ebook from your local library to learn some techniques, but even with just a phone camera, you can make some pretty incredible photography.

Photography

It's fun. It's art. It's fascinating. But most importantly? All you need is paper.

Origami

You're already doing your new hobby! It's the best hobby ever, and so easy to do. You're really gonna learn a lot about yourself in this process.

Quiz Taking

It's relaxing and the only way you're gonna get soap right now if I'm being honest. You don't even have to do the full process: Just buy some soap base, some good-smelling stuff, and a mold. Voilà!

Soap Making

I know what you're thinking: "I'm not a comedian!" That's why it's a _hobby_. Right now, you have too much time to yourself, nowhere to put your thoughts, and a lot of good material. Write a comedy set and debut it to your friends over video chat.

Stand-Up Comedy

A yo-yo? Like, $5 or something. Seeing your friends' faces when you leave self-isolation while doing some sick yo-yo tricks? Priceless.

Yo-yoing

Cooking! It's like baking but for the other four food groups! It's easy to thing of cooking as something you just do to live, but if you look around for cool recipes that you're excited to make, it'll make the experience of cooking fun, interesting, and educational! Can't go to your favorite burger joint/sushi restaurant/burrito place right now? Make it yourself!

Cooking

It's probably one of the least involved hobbies. You get the supplies, plant the stuff, and then...wait. All that you need to do from there is water it and talk to it like it's your roommate or your child. Or maybe that's just me.
