It’s that time of your life when all of your happy and in love friends decide it’s time to return the favor and set you up on a date. They’re in their blissful state of a new relationship, and believe that all people should be as happy as they are. Of course, that means you, the single one of the group, has to fend off all of their attempts at setting you up. But eventually, because they’re so persistent, you finally cave at one of their attempts and find yourself getting ready for a blind date.

1. Because It's Irritating

It’s Friday night and you are going on a date. No, you’re going on a blind date. And while all of your friends are asking you if you’re excited to finally (thanks guys) be going on a date, you’re ready to snap at them and ask if they would be excited to be going on a date with someone they’ve never met—or seen—before.

Now you start to wonder why they set you up in the first place. Was it because they pity you and your feeble attempts at finding a date on your own? Because, screw them, you can totally get a date on your own. You just haven’t because you’ve been too busy. I mean, you have a career, or at least a resume (but you did send it out to all of your “dream job” companies). It takes time writing down all of your achievements, so it’s not like you’ve had time to find a date.

You start to have an existential crisis and wonder what it is you’re really doing with your life and why you haven’t been able to get a date on your own. You begin to pity yourself, and that’s when you know you’ve hit an all time low. Maybe going on a blind date won’t be so bad. Hey, at least it’s company, right?

But what if he’s bad company? Not like the band, or song, or movie, but like a serial killer wrapped in a blind date package? Who is this person who you’re supposed to be going out with?! How much does your friend even know about him? You start to panic, because you don’t know if these feelings are from the Law and Order SVU episodes you binge watched on Netflix all last week, or if it’s intuition.

You calm yourself down by making a game plan. You know his name, right? Why not investigate a bit, maybe run a background check and Facebook profile glance?

You Google his name and see a link to his profile. Age seems right, gender seems right, and picture seems, umm, not right. That’s really who your friend set you up with? She must really pity you if—oh, you realize it’s his friend you saw and that he’s actually just your type and doesn’t look like a Unabomber at all. You silently apologize to your friend for all the mean things you just thought about her.

6. Because It's Nerve-Wracking

Now that you know how cute he actually is, you start to question your outfit choice. And hair. And personality. It’s not that people don’t like you, because they do, but you’ve always felt like the “Chandler” of the group: “I’m hopeless and awkward and desperate for love!”

What if he did the same thing you did, saw your profile picture, and is going to stand you up? Maybe he saw the awkward quiz you took and forgot to delete from your Facebook wall and he thinks you’re a real loser? Or that picture from freshman year where you look more like you’re 12 than 18, and—

8. Because It's Time to Bring Your A-Game

It’s time for the pep talk. So what if you’re the Chandler of the group? Isn’t he the most loveable anyway? You tell yourself all the great things about yourself and how lucky your date is to be paired up with you. Who cares if he saw that picture? It just shows that you’re fun and know how to have a good time!

But you’re nervous because now you actually have to talk to him, and what if he’s the one who is real awk and not you? But you see a waiter deliver a piece of chocolate cake to another table, and you know that regardless of what happens on the date, you still get a piece of fabulous chocolate cake out of the deal.
