Hot Take: Having a cash bar at your wedding (where guests have to pay for their own drinks) is tacky, especially if the event is otherwise fancy and expensive.

Hot Take: The garter toss is so creepy and uncomfortable to watch, and society should get rid of it.

Hot Take: Most wedding speeches are way too long. Keep it short and sweet, people! Nothing worse than seeing the best man bring several typed pages to the microphone.

Hot Take: If the bride is requiring all of her bridesmaids to wear the exact same dress, she should pay for the dresses herself.

Hot Take: The whole "rustic" wedding aesthetic that's all over Pinterest — mason jars, twine, tea lights, chalkboards, etc. — is a little overdone at this point.

Hot Take: Weddings with "themes" (like Disney, or Harry Potter, or a favorite sports team) usually end up looking tacky.

Hot Take: Having more than six or seven bridesmaids (or groomsmen) is kinda silly. You don't need to be flanked by a small army to get married! Stick to siblings and very close friends.

Hot Take: If you decide to turn your bachelor/bachelorette party into an expensive weekend trip, you should respect that some of your friends might not go.

Hot Take: A simple backyard wedding with beer and lawn games is just as fun — if not _more_ fun — than a big, elaborate wedding in some fancy ballroom.

Hot Take: Most wedding favors are useless junk that will just end up in a landfill within six months. No one needs another beer koozie! Stick to edible favors like candy, or skip them entirely.

Hot Take: There are too many "wedding events" outside of the actual wedding. Engagement parties, bachelor(ette) parties, bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, welcome BBQs, post-wedding brunch parties...it's gotten out of control.

Hot Take: While there's certainly a time and a place for a big, lavish wedding, more couples should consider eloping and saving their money for the future.
