Anne Hathaway Explained Her Decision To Quit Drinking And It's So Important

"I will never be that person who can nurse a glass of wine throughout an entire evening."

Anne Hathaway is on the June cover of Tatler — and in a candid interview with the magazine, she opened up about her relationship with alcohol and why she decided it was time to quit.

"My issue is I just love it," she told the magazine. "So. Much. But the way I do it makes me unavailable for my son."

She explained how her hangovers had gotten out of control:

My last hangover lasted for five days. I’d earned it: It was a day-drinking session with friends that went into an evening birthday party with one of my drinking buddies.

"I will never be that person who can nurse a glass of wine throughout an entire evening," she added.

And Anne joked about the situation later in the interview, when asked what she would have done with her life if she hadn't pursued acting.

"I could have seen myself being a teacher," she said. "Or going into the military. Or being some kind of do-gooder with a death wish. But more likely than anything else I would have been an alcoholic."

This actually isn't Anne's first time opening up about this — the star revealed her decision to quit drinking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in January.

"I quit drinking back in October," she told Ellen. "For 18 years. I'm gonna stop drinking while my son's living in my house, just because I don't totally love the way I do it. He's getting to an age where he really does need me all the time in the mornings."

And in that same interview, she explained what pushed her to quit once and for all:

I did one school run one day where I dropped him off at school — I wasn't driving, but I was hungover, and that was enough for me. I didn't love that.

Honestly, as a big Anne Hathaway fan (a Stan Hathaway, if you will) I give her major props for being so open and honest about this stuff.
