18 Horrifying Kids' Show Moments That Scarred Every Millennial For Life

Are You Afraid of the Dark? was way too scary to be on the air, and we all know it.

We asked the BuzzFeed Community to share the TV moments that scared the living bajeezus out of them when they were kids. Here are the ones that scarred them (and probably you) for life:

    1. The violin girl from Courage The Cowardly Dog:

    Cartoon Network

"Absolutely everything from Courage the Cowardly Dog terrified me, but mostly the violin girl from the episode 'Courage in the Big Stinkin' City'. At first, she was this normal girl with her back turned playing the violin, but then she turned around, and her face scarred me for life."

    2. The ghouls from the "Hush" episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer:

    20th Television

"It wasn’t just their grotesque appearance, but the way they would politely mime to one another and the helplessness that the cast projected."

    3. The episode of Rugrats when they went inside Chuckie's body:

"It was because Chuckie swallowed a watermelon seed, and Angelica tried to make it grow. It was pretty rough."

    4. Any time the Trickster from The Sarah Jane Adventures was onscreen:

"This was on a CHILDREN’S SHOW. I wouldn’t recommend googling this one at night."

    5. Zeke the Plumber from Salute Your Shorts:

"I saw that episode on TV Halloween night when I was 4 or 5, and for the next three years I was convinced he'd come into my room late at night and plunge my nose off. Nearly suffocated myself underneath my sheets."

    6. "The Tale of The Lonely Ghost" episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark:

"There was a little girl who's trapped in the mirror, and at one point someone got stuck in the room the mirror was in. The little girl wrote 'HELP ME' over and over and then reached out for the person in the creepiest way! I had a full-length mirror in my room that had to be covered up, or I couldn’t fall asleep at night."

    7. Crazy Floyd from As Told By Ginger:

"There was an episode with an escaped mental patient, who repeatedly said, 'bark, bark, bark'. It literally scarred my sister and me for life. We laugh about it now, but at the time my mom banned us from watching the show because she was sick of having to console us in the middle of the night."

    8. Koh, the Face Stealer spirit from Avatar: The Last Airbender:

"That thing was —and is— so freaking terrifying!"

    9. "The Silent Treatment" episode of The Powerpuff Girls:

    Cartoon Network

"Some silent film star kidnapped the professor into his world, and I remember him looking so creepy. The whole episode was silent. I hated it, and still do."

    10. The intro to Tales from the Crypt:

"The music, the coffin popping open, the maniacal ma’am. Messed me up to this day."

    11. Mommy Fortuna from The Last Unicorn:

    Jensen Farley Pictures

"It took me until I was 18 to actually sit down and watch it in full. That witch terrified me."

    12. The "Squeeze" episode of The X-Files:

    20th Century Fox

"The episode had a murderous villain who could fit through tiny spaces. At the end, after being captured, you saw him staring at the letterbox-sized food hole in his cell. The dread I felt watching that as a kid still haunts me to this day."

    13. The pool creature from Are You Afraid of the Dark:

"I'd already had a bad experience from nearly drowning in a pool a few years before I first saw the episode. It scared the crap out of me for years as a kid."

    14. "The Empty Child" episode of Doctor Who:

"When the doctor that works in the hospital turns into a gas mask zombie...terrifying."

    15. The "Face Freeze!" episode of SpongeBob SquarePants:

"It was the one where some of the characters kept making facial expressions until their faces got stuck. I thought it would happen to me, so I was hesitant to make any noticeable expressions."

    16. The "Killed by Death" episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer:

    20th Television

"I didn’t sleep for several nights after I first watched this episode. Basically, Der Kindestod played a demon who preyed on sick children, and the children were the only ones who could see him."

    17. Freaky Fred from Courage the Cowardly Dog:

    Cartoon Network

"He unsettled me worse than any horror movie. I had nightmares and ran out of the room every time that episode came on."

    18. And Zeebo the Clown from Are You Afraid of the Dark:

"I stopped watching the show after that episode. I was so terrified! I don’t even remember much from the episode, but the fear is still clear."
