11. The Iron Man opening sequence

The movie that started it all kicked things off with a literal bang. Tony Stark is attacked by a terrorist group that ends up killing the group of soldiers traveling with him using his own Stark weapons. After the fallout, Tony suffers injuries from shrapnel entering his body when a Stark bomb lands next to him. This gritty and brutal opening set the stage for the MCU and showed that they weren't playing.

10. Ultron cuts off Klaue's arm

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, we are introduced to an international criminal and underground black-market arms dealer, Ulysses Klaue. Klaue sells all of his vibranium to Ultron, who then ends up brutally chopping off Klaue's arm. However, he did get an upgrade — a prosthetic arm powered by vibranium.

9. Killmonger kills Zuri and almost kills T'Challa

When Erik Killmonger returned to his father's home of Wakanda determined to overthrow King T'Challa, he challenged him to a duel for the throne. Killmonger is a trained and ferocious fighter; he served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Military Black Ops. After an intense duel full of brutal punches, stabs, and skill, his anger at T'Challa and his need to get revenge for his father led to Killmonger stabbing Zuri in the chest and then subsequently stabbing and throwing T'Challa off of a cliff into the running river below. Even though he survived, seeing Black Panther almost die like that was hard. This wasn't just a brutal scene; Killmonger was one of the most brutal villains in the MCU who didn't have superpowers. 

8. War Machine is accidentally shot down by Vision

The epic battle in Captain America: Civil War was not without its casualties, on both sides. When War Machine and Falcon were having their own midair battle, Rhodey called on Vision for backup. A distracted Vision shot a mindstone laser at Sam, only for Sam to duck it and the beam hit Rhodey instead. The scene was an incredibly intense one as you watched Rhodey fall helplessly from the sky while both Iron Man and Falcon tried to get to him in time — only for him to hit the ground and end up partially paralyzed.

7. Pietro's Death scene

Even though he was an Avenger only for a short while, Pietro Maximoff, a.k.a. Quicksilver's death in Avengers: Age of Ultron marked the first time an Avenger was killed in the MCU. Pietro dies by sacrificing himself to shield Hawkeye, who was in the middle of saving a child from a hail of bullets. What makes this scene so heartbreaking is seeing the toll it takes on his sister, Wanda Maximoff. No one expected Quicksilver to die in the movie he was introduced in.

6. Thor loses an eye to Hela

As you may remember, Thor loses his eye during the epic final battle in Thor: Ragnarok while battling against his evil and powerful sister Hela. When Thor and Hela come face-to-face in one final fight, Hela strikes Thor across the face with her sword, slashing out Thor’s right eye. Hela did not hold back. He is making the eyepatch look work though, just like his father. 

5. The Winter Soldier beats up Captain America

At the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, when the epic final battle is drawing to a close, it all comes down to Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes. Everything in this film has led up to this moment. When Cap decides that he is not going to fight Bucky anymore and drops his Shield, a mind-controlled Bucky continues to beat up Steve, continuously pummeling him. A bloodied and bruised Steve goes on to tell Bucky "I'm with you to the end of the line", which eventually snaps him out of his trance. What makes this scene so special is the bond between best friends Steve and Bucky; this makes it one of the best but also hardest-to-watch scenes in the MCU.

4. Thanos kills Vision

Poor Vision didn't just get killed once; he was killed twice in Avengers: Infinity War.

Vision's death was one of the most tragic when you think about it. After Wanda kills Vision herself in order to keep the mind stone away from Thanos, sacrificing what she loves most, Thanos uses the time stone and brings him back, killing him all over again right in front of Wanda by plucking the mind stone out of his head and then tossing his body aside. When it comes to horrific Thanos-related deaths, this one is right up there at the top.

3. Tony Stark's death

The Russo Brothers' Avengers: Endgame was an emotional rollercoaster; it delivered what was probably the most devastating death scene in the MCU. Tony dies as a result of snapping Thanos and his forces out of existence for good, but wielding the Infinity Stones has dire consequences for Tony. We see him in a great deal of pain and then succumb to the physical injuries caused by wielding The Stones.

2. The Winter Soldier kills Tony Stark's Parents

In Captain America: Civil War, Zemo reveals that it was in fact Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, who assassinated Tony's parents while under the control of Hydra. We see the brutal assassination that took place all those years ago, with The Winter Soldier crashing the Stark's car and killing Howard and Maria Stark by blunt force trauma with his metal arm and choking, respectively. The brutality and completely disturbing lack of emotion from the then-mind controlled Winter Soldier is what makes Tony so enraged, leading to the epic battle between Iron Man, Captain America, and The Winter Soldier.

1. John Walker Bloodies Cap's Shield

In what was probably the most horrifying and disturbing moment in the MCU so far, we see John Walker get a little too much blood on his hands and the shield. After his partner Lama is killed by Karli, Walker pins down one of the Flag Smashers and smashes his shield into them, repeatedly drenching it in blood while the whole world watches. What made this moment so horrifying is the fact that Walker kills Matias with Captain America's shield, the very symbol that stands against what he just did. And by doing so, he literally taints the shield and what it represents. Although Wyatt Russell gave a great performance, If fans didn't hate John Walker before, they sure did after this.
