18 Bizarre Celebrity Endorsements That I Actually Can't Believe Existed

    Why do I really want some butter right now?

    No judgement here (we all gotta pay the bills somehow) but it does have to be said that celebs often strike up some pretty odd endorsement deals that, let's just say, don't entirely fit their brand. Here are just a few bizarre examples...

    1. Remember when The X Factor runners-up and British boyband sensation JLS released a range of custom Durex condoms that featured their faces on the packet?

    2. Or perhaps you recall the time when Academy Award-winning actor Penélope Cruz brought her sizzling and sultry intensity to an ad for the Nintendo 3DS, in which she dressed up as Mario?

    3. Did you know that English footballer and famous metrosexual David Beckham once fronted a brand of healthy fish fingers?

    4. And you'll undoubtedly remember the period when Neighbours darling and noughties pop icon Holly Valance dominated the British TV advert space as the face of reverse charge call service, 0800Reverse!

    5. She's queen of my life, but Jamie Lee Curtis's spots on those Activia yoghurt commercials were ripe for parody. And it's not just me who thought so – SNL even produced a hilarious skit of them starring Amy Poehler, Ashton Kutcher, and Kristen Wiig as Jamie Lee!

    6. Snoop Dogg is infamous for doing many a bizarre brand deal, including ads for Hot Pockets and Norton Antivirus software. His latest endorsement is the UK takeaway app, Just Eat, for which he raps the annoyingly catchy theme song.

    7. Far from "going electric", Bob Dylan's most audacious career move was actually his musical guest spot on a 2004 Victoria's Secret commercial featuring iconic angel, Adriana Lima.

    8. In 2014, Cristiano Ronaldo became the face of the Facial Fitness Pao, a Japanese device that is designed to exercise and strengthen your facial muscles to keep you looking young and ~ smiley ~.

    9. You might've thought that former Sex Pistol John Lydon was selling out when he began to promote Country Life butter, but he's actually just here to inform us all that butter is punk AF. So there.

    10. Another musician-turned-butter-advocate is legendary Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, who starred in a 2006 ad for popular spread, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter!

    11. Did you know that Kim Kardashian once ceremoniously opened up a holiday pop-up in Times Square for the toilet-roll brand Charmin? It was basically a glamorous public toilet with a lounge area, a dance stage, and a social media kiosk.

    12. Back in the '60s, Winston cigarettes landed a sponsorship of several episodes of The Flintstones, in which many of the main characters were seen smoking and extolling the many benefits of the product.

    13. Punk icon and lead singer of The Stooges, Iggy Pop, once appeared very much as his on-stage persona in a slew of ads for insurance provider, Swiftcover.

    14. Chinese actor and martial arts legend Jackie Chan once endorsed our beloved Woolworths, the British high street department store that went bust back in 2008 – nothing to do with Jackie, of course!

    15. Serious British actor Malcolm McDowell is well known for his edgy roles in films such as A Clockwork Orange and If, but there's another role he's been known to play – himself in commercials for American snack food, Lunchables Uploaded!

    16. You'd be forgiven for not knowing that boxing legend Muhammad Ali once randomly endorsed D-Con roach traps for trapping vermin in your home. It was one of Muhammad's earlier commercial sponsorships... obviously.

    17. We all knew Paris Hilton would be somewhere on this list! Ms. Hilton is well known for having her fingers in all of the pies – and burgers, if this 2005 commercial for hamburger chain Carl's Jr. is anything to go by!

    18. And lastly, who knew that former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev had appeared in an ad as himself for Pizza Hut!? The statesman agreed to be in the internationally televised commercial to support his research foundation and because he apparently loves pizza!
