James Charles Responded To Backlash About His Tinder Identity Preference And Activity

"I'm so sick of people talking about this."

Obviously, after the whole Tati Westbrook scandal, James Charles had a hard time dating.

People have since seen him on Tinder and claimed he allegedly identifies as "female" on the app:

y’all. my guy friend just found James Charles on tinder when he was in LA?? classified as a female, ??

The above screenshots do no reflect that and do not show that he identifies as "female."

One critic wrote this, which James assumed was about him. The tweet said gay men should not set their Tinder settings to female, so that straight men can match with them.

if you identify as a gay man do not set your tinder settings to female for straight men to find you if you identify as a gay man do not set your tinder settings to female for straight men to find you that’s all

James responded to the user in a string of tweets and said he lists himself as "androgynous," not female. He also said he unmatched with anyone who said they were straight.

@ThreeDailey I’m so sick of people talking about this. 1. My identity on dating apps was listed as “androgynous” - someone who expresses themselves in both feminine & masculine ways. NOT a female to “trick” anyone. 2. Everytime someone said they were straight, I unmatched right away.

James said having conversations with people he matches with is "not predatory," and that although he doesn't participate, "'curious' men use feminine gays as an outlet to experiment."

@ThreeDailey 3. Having simple conversations with people that swipe right on you on dating apps is NOT predatory. 4. As a gay man, you know that “curious” men use feminine gays as an outlet to experiment. I stopped allowing myself to take part, but let’s not pretend like it doesn’t happen.

James also said that although he deleted his dating apps last week, he has in the last six months gone on "dates with gay, bisexual, and closeted men" — not "straight men."

@ThreeDailey 5. I’ve went on many awesome dates with either gay, bisexual or closeted men over the last 6 months. I have gone on 0 dates with “straight men” - LITERALLY EVER. 6. I deleted dating apps from my phone last week because although I’ve CONSENTUALLY met some great people from them,

He went to say he faces harassment from people who "only match to take screenshots or make videos & a spectacle of me."

@ThreeDailey (cont.) unfortunately I receive a lot of harassment from people who only match to take screenshots or make videos & a spectacle of me, thanks to people like you who will not let these FALSE ACCUSATIONS die down. I have received this treatment from ALL men of ALL sexualities.

Wow. Well, bottom line: Let everyone's dating app experience be respectful and drama-free! That's all, bye!
