Danai Gurira Is Officially Leaving "The Walking Dead"

"I would just like to say that this has been one of the purest joys in my life."

Danai Gurira is officially saying goodbye to The Walking Dead.

After eight incredible seasons, Danai will hang up Michonne's katana following Season 10.

Appearing at San Diego Comic Con, Danai confirmed the rumors that this upcoming season will be her last.

Danai tearfully said "This has been one of the purest joys in my life. To play this role and to be amongst these people and those that are not here right now, and amongst all of you [the fans]."

She continued, saying, "I am very, very thankful for the experiences that I've had in ways that I can't even express right now."

Danai said that she leaves with a heavy heart, but knows that The Walking Dead family will always be with her.

Her decision to part with Michonne was a difficult one, but she's excited about what's to come.

Besides being part of The Walking Dead, Danai stars as Okoye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and she's also a playwright.

Following the announcement, Hall H erupted in a standing ovation celebrating all of the work Danai has put into this show.
