In December, Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the feet. He was convicted on all counts: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. On Monday and Tuesday, Tory was in court for a sentencing hearing. He has not received his sentence at the time of this article's publication

According to AP, Megan was reportedly not in attendance on Monday as she said she "simply could not bring [herself] to be in a room with Tory again.” A statement of hers was read at the sentencing where she said, "Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace.” She reportedly suggested Lanez receive a sentence with "the full weight of the law."

Prosecutors are asking for a 13-year prison sentence for Lanez, while his defense team is seeking probation and mandatory rehab. Lanez's team subsequently submitted 76 letters of recommendation from family, religious figures, and some people in the music industry — including one from Iggy. While the letter has not been made public, the judge reportedly said it asked for a sentence "that is transformational, not life destroying."

Iggy's involvement was met with some criticism online:

Iggy Azalea is the walking embodiment of how white women will fetishize Black womanhood—from co-opting our speech and vernacular to paying thousands to replicate our physical aesthetics to birthing Black children—but will refuse to stand in solidarity with Black women.

& To think that Iggy Azalea hasn’t uttered a word about any Black issues or how the fact that she’s a whole culture vulture. But had the nerve to write a letter to the judge in favor of the leprechaun.. & Even used abolition terminology to sway the judge. Very SICKENING!

Iggy even addressed the letter she wrote on Twitter on Monday. "For the record, I have not been in touch with Tory for months, I have no reason to be, but I do wish him well," she said.

"I don’t 'support' anyone. The whole thing is full of oddities. My letter never mentioned anything in regard to what happened that night," she continued. "I was told this was for a judge only, yet it’s being discussed in public? I never intended to publicly comment."

"I am not in support of throwing away ANY ones life if we can give reasonable punishments that are rehabilitative instead. I support prison reform. Period," Iggy said. "I was asked to write about my genuine experience and the type of punishment I think he deserves: I did. It’s not really that interesting, but I understand why it’s being sensationalized... See ya next week to discuss pizza toppings I suppose."

In a follow-up tweet, she further said, "Yes: he should be held accountable. No: the charges don’t warrant 5plus in prison."

I really hate that this is todays discourse online because it’s not really an explosive revelation.
Yes: he should be held accountable.
No: the charges don’t warrant 5plus in prison.

Most agree with that sentiment because it’s a reasonable take.
This is not news worthy. 🤷‍♀️

Iggy's justification for the letter was met with further criticism:

seeing Iggy Azalea and Grimes use "restorative justice" terminology in defense of Tory Lanez and C.B. is so depressing. when I was organizing survivors, "restorative justice" practices were raised often w/o awareness of praxis, mostly as a way to keep the accused in community

As Lindsey Pointer, Associate Director for the National Center on Restorative Justice, puts it, "Restorative justice will not be an appropriate option for all incidents of harm. It is a voluntary process and both the harmed party and responsible party need to engage willingly. Furthermore, it is only effective when the responsible party is taking responsibility."
