Now, as a scorned Game of Thrones fan, it can admittedly be hard to trust again. But here's a quick synopsis of the show: In the words of co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik, “The main characters are two women and two men. There’s the king (Viserys), his brother (Daemon), the king’s daughter (Rhaenyra), and her best friend (Alicent). Then the best friend becomes the king’s wife and thereby the queen."

Unlike GoT, the show will have a whole bunch of time jumps* throughout the 10-episode "generational war" story in a way that evokes another gnarly royal story: The Crown.

The trailer opens on a shot of our beloved friend, the Iron Throne.

We then get to the heart of the conflict shown in the trailer: The matter of succession between the king's brother, Daemon (played by Matt Smith)...

...and the king's daughter, Rhaenyra (played by Milly Alcock as a teenager and Emma D’Arcy as an adult).

Alas, there's the small problem of Rhaenyra's best friend/stepmom Alicent (played by Emily Carey as a teen and Olivia Cooke as an adult).

And the fact that bros would literally rather go to war than see a woman on the Iron Throne.

    And dragons!

    They look quite good.

Ah, fuck it, I'm ready to try again.

House of the Dragon comes barreling into our lives on Aug. 21.
