If you're anything like me, you've been eagerly awaiting any updates on the upcoming live-action portrayal of Moana.

Animated Moana

Sure, some folks have complained that the continual live-action movies are getting tired, but I'm still hopeful about this one. Moana is my absolute favorite Disney princess! And for me as a Samoan woman, it would mean SO much to see a huge movie with an all–Pacific Islander cast.

"When I was cast as Moana at 14, it wonderfully changed my life and started my career," she said. "In this live-action retelling, I will not be reprising the role. I believe it is absolutely vital that casting accurately represents the characters and stories we want to tell."

Though the 22-year-old won't be playing Moana, she shared that she'll still be part of the project.

"As an executive producer on the film, I cannot wait to help find the next actress to portray Moana's courageous spirit, undeniable wit, and emotional strength," she said.

"I am truly honored to pass this baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent, to honor our incredible Pacific peoples, cultures, and communities that helped inspired her story. And I look forward to all the beautiful Pacific representation to come. Mahalo," she concluded.
