"The Photograph" Co-Stars Issa Rae And Lakeith Stanfield Opened Up About The Scary Side Of Love

How can something be so beautiful and yet, so scary?

On Valentine's Day, Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield brought us The Photograph, a romantic film about breaking generational curses, opening yourself up to new experiences, and of course, falling in love when you least expect it.

The Photograph not only shows just how beautiful being vulnerable can be, but it also explores the difficult reasons why people hesitate to share their heart with another person.

So during their NY press run, I asked Issa and Lakeith what scares them the most about falling in love.

Issa said, "The idea that it may not work out."

"The idea that it may not work out — that you can invest all these years into someone and it could be done, just like that. The possibility that I could one day hate the person I once loved is very scary to me."

While Lakeith said, "Putting your trust in the hands of somebody else."

"Putting your complete trust in the hands of somebody else. You kind of have to give it all up and carry the mindset that, 'Whatever happens, happens. I'm going to trust this love.' That's a difficult thing to do."

And yet, despite their fears, both Lakeith and Issa have allowed themselves to take a chance on love, both on-screen and individually in their personal lives.
