The ending is one of the most memorable parts of a movie. It’s what stays with you long after the credits roll. In the horror genre specifically, the way a movie ends just seems to hold more weight than with other genres. I mean, horror is known for having some pretty great twist endings.
Sometimes, horror movies have happy endings where everything is neatly wrapped up in a bow, or we get a real “good for her” moment. While other times, a feel-good ending can border on illogical, or even seem a bit sappy and over-emotional, especially depending on the amount of carnage that preceded it.
An unhappy ending in horror is a great way for a filmmaker to get their point across, and sometimes, there’s just no other way to end the story. A darker ending, though, can also be waaay too much of a downer, or make it feel like everything we just saw was pretty pointless.
So just because a horror movie has a happy ending doesn't necessarily mean it has a satisfying one. And, likewise, an unhappy ending does not equal an unsatisfying one. I’ve rounded up some famous horror movies that have pretty memorable finales, and I want to know: Do you think the ending was satisfying?
