9 Famous Women You Probably Never Knew Proposed To Their Husbands And Not The Other Way Around

I just love that Judge Judy got married on Flag Day.

Rita Ora is the latest famous woman to propose to her now-husband, Taika Waititi.

Taika Waititi told Vogue about how Rita did it: "She proposed to me, and I said yes instantly."

Because it's 2023 and not 1903 now, let's look at other famous women who asked their partners to marry them...

    1. Judge Judy has been with her husband Jerry Sheindlin for almost 45 years.

She told Dujour about her proposal, “I said to him, ‘Where is this relationship going?’ And he tried to weasel out of it, with his, ‘Well, you know, why do we have to get married?’ Whatever. He finally capitulated. I told him to pick a date. He picked Flag Day."

    2. Pink has been with Carey Hart for 17 years.

Pink asked Carey to marry her while he was competing in a motocross event. She held a sign that said, "Will you marry me?" while he went around the track. After his first lap around, she held another sign that said, "I'm serious."

    3. Kristen Bell has been married to Dax Shepard for 10 years.

She proposed to Dax after the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in 2013.

    4. Jodie Turner-Smith has been with Joshua Jackson for four years.

Joshua told Refinery29 about how she proposed: "We were in Nicaragua on a beautiful moonlit night, it could not possibly have been more romantic. And yes, my wife did propose to me and yes, I did say yes, but what I didn't say in that interview was there was a caveat, which is that I'm still old school enough that I said, 'This is a yes, but you have to give me the opportunity [to do it too].'"

There was apparently backlash against Jodie for being the one to propose, and Joshua told Refinery29: "Good God, you cannot believe the things people were leaving my wife on Instagram. She did it. I said ‘yes.’ We're happy. That's it. That's all you need to know."

    5. Britney Spears was with Kevin Federline for 2.5 years.

According to Us Weekly, Kevin was surprised by the proposal: "The way she said it was kind of beating around the bush. Still, I was taken by surprise. I thought the guy was supposed to ask the girl. So a couple of minutes went by and then I asked her."

    6. Diane von Furstenberg has been married to Barry Diller for 22 years.

Diane told O how she proposed to him: "One year I didn't know what to give him for his birthday. And I called him and said, 'You know, if you want, for your birthday I'll marry you.' And he said, 'Let me see if I can arrange it.' It's what he always says, and he always arranges it. A week later we married at City Hall."

    7. Sarah Snook has been married to her husband, Dave Lawson, for two years.

She told Vogue how she proposed to him: "We’ve been friends since 2014, lived together, traveled together, always excited to see each other, but totally platonic. We’ve just never been single at the same time. I proposed and we got married in February in my backyard."

    8. Lindsey Vonn and P.K. Subban were together for three years.

Lindsey asked PK to marry her in a "non traditional" move on Christmas.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone!! On our 2 year anniversary, in a “non traditional” move, I asked PK to marry me and he said, Yes ☺️! Women aren’t the only ones who should get engagement rings! #MerryChristmas #equality pic.twitter.com/hhdm85RoWi

    9. And lastly, Haley Lu Richardson proposed to Brett Dier in 2018, but they broke up two years later.

She told the proposal story on Busy Tonight (via People): "Neither of us are like crazy romantic people, so nothing was planned. He was sitting there eating a pizza and he was telling me a joke that Shia LaBeouf had said in an interview, and he was like pretending to be Shia LaBeouf explaining this joke and for some reason I just cut him off and was like, 'Wanna marry me?'"
