“Hannibal” Star Wants The TV Show To Return In The Next Two To Four Years

"It all depends on Bryan. He is the key, the base, the heart."

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen opened up about the cancellation of the show.

The actor told Express that the cast and crew were shocked and pissed, at the show's axing.

"We are all angry. We were pissed. It's madness, and season four was actually the one we thought we'd definitely get. Seasons two and three were on the verge. We didn't know whether Hannibal would be renewed. But by the time we got to season four we thought it was a definite. We were very surprised at the decision."

While a critical success, the show battled to secure rights when it came to the properties of Silence of the Lambs.

Show creator Bryan Fuller previously mentioned his plans for a fourth season would indeed include the iconic character of Clarice Starling, and Mikkelsen echoed a similar sentiment.

"We were very close to solving the rights issues, Silence of the Lambs was coming up around the corner, and it's such a beautiful story with great characters.”

While Mikkelsen remains optimistic for the show's return, he's aware it's entirely in the hands of Fuller.

But we all know that we can easily pick this up in two or three years, there are breaks in the stories. We could pick it up, say, four years later. If Bryan is up for it, we will all go for it.”

Fuller is currently working on the series adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods for Starz, and was recently named showrunner and co-creator of a new Star Trek series for CBS.

Mikkelsen will be starring alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel's Doctor Strange this November.
