People Are Posting Doctor Notices After The PM Guaranteed GP Fees Wouldn't Go Up

"Sam, absolutely."

In one of his final TV interviews of the long eight week election campaign, Malcolm Turnbull appears to have made a promise that doctors will not raise their fees.

Sam: "Can you guarantee our viewers will not pay more to go to the doctor due to this freeze." PM: "Absolutely Sam"

Turnbull was being interviewed on Channel 7's Sunrise when he was asked by host Samantha Armytage, "Can you guarantee our viewers will not pay more to go to the doctor due to this freeze?"

Armytage was referring to the Coalition's decision to keep the GP Medicare rebate frozen. It's a decision the Australian Medical Association has said will lead to GPs lifting prices.

Turnbull replied, "Sam, absolutely. The bulk-billing is at its all time high."

It prompted people to start tweeting notices from their local GPs that show the decision will lead to fees going up from today.

@ElizaBorrello there is a reason he couldn't give a commitment a bout GP fees at a real Medical Practice

It's already being compared to Julia Gillard's last-minute promise before the 2010 election not to introduce a carbon tax.

And Tony Abbott's pledge on the night before the 2013 election that there'd be no cuts to education, health or the ABC and SBS.

Both of which turned out to be ... not exactly true.
