The Godfather director thinks Marvel pictures are "despicable."

Another day, another celebrity weighing in on Marvel movies.

This time Francis Ford Coppola has decided to share his thoughts on Martin Scorsese's Marvel comments. Turns out, The Godfather director thinks Scorsese was being too "kind" when he said Marvel films are "not cinema."

When the topic came up, Coppola told AFP, "Martin was kind when he said it’s not cinema. He didn’t say it’s despicable, which I say it is.”

    Oof.

He did explain what he meant by that, adding, “When Martin Scorsese says that the Marvel pictures are not cinema, he’s right because we expect to learn something from cinema, we expect to gain something, some enlightenment, some knowledge, some inspiration.”

"I don’t know that anyone gets anything out of seeing the same movie over and over again," he finished.

As Robert Downey Jr. said, when Howard Stern asked him if he thinks Marvel movies are cinema, "I mean, it plays in theaters."
