We asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us about their favorite books that always make them cry. We pulled together all of the tear-inducing children's books, so here are the moving results:
1. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is a French story of loneliness and love that'll resonate with you at any age.
2. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein will inspire any kid or adult with its classic tale of selfless giving, unconditional love, and forgiveness.
3. We Found a Hat by Jon Klassen centers on two turtles who find one hat — and resolves in a touching way that'll remind readers of the power of friendship.
4. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo follows the ~journey~ of porcelain rabbit who can think but not communicate after he is separated from the little girl who owns him — and how he reunites with her once more.
5. Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls focuses on Billy, a boy who saves up to buy two hunting hounds, Old Dan and Little Ann — but tragedy waits around the corner.
6. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor is set in Mississippi during the Great Depression, taking a look at how racism and injustice shape the life of the protagonist, Cassie, while she maintains her dignity and self-respect.
7. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman is a grade 5-8 book that tells the story of Nobody, a boy who, after his family is killed when he is 18 months old, is adopted by the (dead) residents of a graveyard.
8. Love You Forever by Robert Munsch has sold more than 15 million copies for a reason — and its story of a mother's love will get ya right in the feels.
9. Letters from Wolfie by Patti Sherlock focuses on a young boy who volunteers his dog to go fight in Vietnam after his brother gets drafted.
10. Redwall by Brian Jacques is a multi-volume series for young fantasy fans in the making — it details the struggle between the peaceful mice of Redwall Abbey and battle-trained rats.
11. The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo (the author of Because of Winn-Dixie) centers on two 12-year-olds who become friends and must decide whether or not to free a tiger who is trapped in a cage in the forest.
12. Tonight on the Titanic by Mary Pope Osborne is set on the fateful night when the Titanic hit an iceberg as time-traveling children Jack and Annie struggle to save others and themselves.
13. Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Patterson illustrates the pain of sibling rivalry through the relationship between twins Sara and Caroline Bradshaw.
14. Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner is an action-packed story about a thrilling dogsled race between Little Willy, who is trying to save the family farm and experienced racer, the titular Stone Fox.
15. Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson centers on the friendship between Jess and Leslie as they invent an imaginary land called Terabithia — and tbh it probably made you cry in elementary school.
16. Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown is a classic board book about how unending a mother's love is.
17. The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams tells the story of a toy rabbit who believes if he is loved enough, will become real. If you've ever had a beloved stuffed animal, prepare for waterworks.
18. Hachiko Waits by Lesléa Newman is based on a true story about faithful and devoted dog Hachiko, who waits at the train station for his master to return each day — even after the day when the train arrives without his master on it.
19. Michael Rosen's Sad Book (with illustrations by Quentin Blake) explores what sadness is in a very personal way, drawing on Rosen's own experience with the sudden death of his son, Eddie.
20. Mick Harte Was Here by Barbara Park (the author of the Junie B. Jones books) deals with themes of death as a family struggles to deal with the loss of the vibrant, hilarious 12-year-old Mick Harte.
21. Love, Aubrey by Suzanne La Fleur is a middle-grade novel about Aubrey, who after a life-changing tragedy moves to Vermont to live with her grandmother and must learn to deal with her grief.
22. The Giver by Lois Lowry centers on a dystopian, colorless world and how 12-year-old Jonas, who is assigned to become the Receiver of Memory, begins to question everything around him.
23. The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate tells the story of an unexpected animal friendship, seen through the eyes of the captive gorilla, the titular Ivan.
24. Charlotte's Web by E. B. White can make even the most die-hard arachnophobes weep at the end.
