John Mayer Explained Why He Wasn't In The Celebrity "Imagine" Video And This Is Probably The Hardest I've Laughed In Months

"They actually asked me to be a part of this, and I totally misunderstood the assignment."

So last week Gal Gadot and a bunch of other celebs released this video of them singing John Lennon's "Imagine":

    And it was reeaaaally something.

The Gal Gadot/others Imagine video would have been the perfect 30 Rock plotline wherein Jenna spiraled after not being asked to contribute and publicly announced that she had coronavirus for the attention

Flash-forward to this week, John Mayer took to Instagram to reveal a little ~secret~ about the video.

"I have to come clean about something. They actually asked me to be a part of this, and I totally misunderstood the assignment."

"I thought they wanted me to sing 'Imagine' by Ariana Grande, from her 2019 smash-hit album, Sweetener."

And of course, he gave us his "unedited" cut.

The infamous video starts out the same way with Gal Gadot, Kristen Wiig, and Jamie Dornan singing John Lennon's "Imagine"...

Then John comes in nailing his Ariana Grande "Imagine" verse.

After that, the video returns to John Lennon's "Imagine" with a few more little sprinkings of Ariana Grande, courtesy of John Mayer.

And lemme tell you... I haven't laughed this hard in a looooooong time.

So thank you, John Mayer, for gracing the world with this perfect video and please keep them coming!
