Here Are 23 Movies From 2019 That People Realllllllyyyy Didn't Like

Can't win 'em all, right?

We asked the BuzzFeed Community which popular 2019 movies they actually hated. Here are their responses:

1. Captain Marvel

"I know it was supposed to be this revolutionary feminist Marvel film, but it threw us into the middle of the action so jarringly, that I never got the chance to get attached to Carol Danvers."

"It felt like it was actually just filler before Avengers: Endgame. There was zero character development, even though Carol finds out she had this whole other life she never knew about."

2. Avengers: Endgame

"Avengers: Endgame was the most disjointed, disrespectful, out-of-character, non-canon compliant movie I have ever seen. It was just another Tony Stark lovefest at the expense of everyone else. The time travel plot made no sense, Thor's plot was insulting, and Steve was the most out of character he's ever been. The only good thing to come out of the movie was Steve finally wielding Mjolnir. Though I'm glad we won't have to see Stark anymore, thanks to Endgame, he's an undeserving martyr."

"Endgame is so bad — especially for the fans. The time travel made no sense and not even the directors can explain it. They ruined Steve’s entire arc, killed Natasha, Thor became a joke, and Captain Marvel had zero screen time."

3. Us

"If I had to pick a not-so-good movie from 2019 it would probably be Us. I love Jordan Peele and Lupita Nyong’o, and the acting was amazing...but the plot was weak and left me with a lot of questions. I had really high expectations and they just weren’t met. Maybe the plot holes were intentional to set it up for a sequel, but it definitely wasn’t what I expected. Sorry to anyone who liked it!"

"I was ready for another Jordan Peele thriller, but was just left confused. The storyline took one too many turns."

4. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Sony Pictures Releasing

"That movie bored me to death. The flashbacks made it confusing and it was hard to tell where they were going with some of the smaller plots. It was just overall really weird, and not in a good way."

"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was the MOST confusing movie I’ve ever seen. My friends and I were lost the entire time. We were expecting the classic, crazy gore of a Tarantino movie, which we only got in the last 15 minutes (the only good part)."

"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was in need of some serious edits. The middle dragged a LOT. I liked the beginning and the end quite a bit, but the middle was boring and pointless."

5. Joker

Warner Bros.

"I walked out of the theater and thought it was 'meh.' The acting was great and the visuals were good, but the movie was just OK. Joaquin Phoenix ranks fifth on my Joker list."

"It was two hours long but it really felt like six. I like Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker, don't get me wrong, I think he did a great job. But the movie had such a boring plot. I'd rather shit in my hands and clap then watch that film again."

6. Booksmart

United Artists Releasing

"I thought Booksmart was just OK. I was really looking forward to it because I'd heard such great things. Once I saw the movie, it wasn't anything spectacular. A lot of the characters annoyed me and I didn't care about any of their relationships."

7. Charlie's Angels

Sony Pictures Releasing

"I went to an advanced screening of Charlie’s Angels and I walked out. The editing, story, and was all so terrible."

8. It Chapter Two

Warner Bros.

"I really wanted to enjoy It Chapter 2, since I really liked the first one. But honestly, it wasn’t as scary as I wanted it to be because they basically just reused all the same monsters from the first one. And don’t even get me started on that weaksauce bully-Pennywise-to-death ending either."

"It Chapter Two was a major slap in the face to anyone who read the book. I was livid in that theater.

9. Spider-Man: Far From Home

"I really didn’t like Spider-Man: Far From Home, even though I really wanted to. It didn’t have the same homey, funny vibe like Spider-Man: Homecoming. The movie focused so much more on Tony Stark than it did on Peter."

"It didn't feel like a Spider-Man movie at all. There was way too much Tony Stark, it was set in Europe — he's supposed to be the neighborhood Spider-Man — and he was outed at the end. I get that they can't follow the comics exactly, but doing stuff like this just ruins it."

"I went to see Spider-Man: Far From Home and I didn't exactly hate it, but it felt like the movie was more about Tony Stark dying instead of Spider-Man."

10. Shazam

Warner Bros.

"Shazam was a big letdown for me. I'm a huge DC fan, but this movie was too childish and cringy for me."

11. Midsommar

"The whole movie was long, boring, and almost nothing interesting happened the whole time. Like yeah, those old people jumped off the cliff, but truthfully, that was the only semi-scary thing that happened. It wasn't worth three hours."

"There was a ton of hype for the psychological horror, but I was just bored the whole time. I watch horror/thriller movies all the time, and I don't know the last time I was that bored in a horror movie."

"The story was slow and confusing. Sometimes the music put me so on edge I just wanted to throw up. I love movies like this but with Midsommar, I was just counting the minutes until it was over."

12. Last Christmas

"Last Christmas was far from perfect. Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding had great chemistry and I liked the side characters, but Henry's character only existed to be her therapist. We literally knew nothing about him the entire film. I was able to predict the twist ending halfway through the movie."

13. Aladdin

"They changed all the songs and made Genie almost disrespectful during the Prince Ali scene. They changed a bunch of scenes and added characters. Dalia and Jafar were also way overdone. They were cartoonish."

14. Ad Astra

20th Century Fox

"Ad Astra was truly the most boring movie I’ve ever seen!"

15. Yesterday

Universal Pictures

"I was super excited for it and it was honestly just awful."

16. The Lighthouse

"Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson give outstanding performances, but the film is so uninteresting that I didn’t care what was happening."

17. Doctor Sleep

Warner Bros.

"The director tried to shove The Shining movie and the Doctor Sleep storyline all together. It was messy and seemed rushed at the end, especially. It was also kind of weird how they casted a Young Danny that didn’t even resemble the original Young Danny. It kind of messed it up for me because I'd be watching the updated Danny, but then see a flashback to The Shining, where he looks completely different. It took me out of the movie a few times."

18. Ma

"Ma was an absolute shitshow. My friend asked me to go see it with her, and I hated every minute of it. The acting and writing were terrible. I regret paying to see it, and I wish I never saw it in the first place."

"I was so ready for it because Octavia Spencer is a world class actress, but it was such a flavourless run-of-the-mill mess. I'm still amazed she signed onto it."

19. Hustlers

"Hustlers was a huge let down for me. I thought it would be amazing considering Jennifer Lopez, Lili Reinhart, Cardi B, Lizzo, and a bunch of other QUEENS were in it. The storyline was all over the place, especially for it being based on a true story."

20. Five Feet Apart

"The plot was awful and the movie made me angry the entire time. I cared way more about the lead girl's best friend than I did any other person in the movie. I actually remember saying 'Oh come on,' out loud while watching it in theaters."

21. Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Warner Bros.

"I just felt like the CGI wasn't worth all the praise it got. The story was stupid, the characters were nothing, and every time anything happened I just wanted to roll my eyes because it was always a stupid choice!"

22. Toy Story 4

"Toy Story 4 sucked. They should’ve stopped after three movies. I get that Andy is supposed to be in college, but if they wanted another movie they should have made Andy have kids and give all the toys to Andy’s kids! It would have been way better. Also fuck those ventriloquist dolls."

"I love the Toy Story series but this movie just felt so out of place. It didn't evoke any emotion from me, not even when Woody left all of his friends, because it just didn't seem real. It didn't go like the regular Toy Story movies. The main characters like Jessie, Rex, Ham, and Mr. Potato Head were barely in the movie. Even Buzz Lightyear wasn't in it as much as he usually is. Toy Story 3 should have been the last movie."

23. The Lion King

"It was boring. It was just the same plot as the original, but without all the whimsical fun you get from the animation."

"I was so excited to relive one of my favorite childhood movies, but it was a huge disappointment."

"Beyoncé’s speaking voice just ruined it for me. Her voice totally didn't fit with the rest of the actors'."
