Here's The Feminist Advice Lucille Ball Gave To Carol Burnett

"She said to me, 'Kid, that is when they put the 'S' on the end of my last name.'"

At 82 years old, Carol Burnett is an accomplished comedian, singer, and actor. The former host of her own variety show, The Carol Burnett Show, is also receiving the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award at the SAG Awards on Jan. 30.

And recently, she recounted a story that Lucille Ball told her about being a woman running her own television show back in the 1960s.

Burnett told People that one time when the two women were out to dinner, Ball explained how her former husband, Desi Arnaz, used to deal with most of the, "the writing, lighting, and many other day-to-day operations on the show."

"Lucy told me when she got a divorce she had to do all the stuff that Desi did and the first table read on the Lucy Show stunk," Burnett said. It was at that moment, according to the actor, Ball realized she had to "take charge."

    Alas, a nickname was born.
