Liam Payne Says He Wants To Collaborate With Zayn And We're 100% Here For It

"I think I would collaborate best with Zayn because we do really similar types of music."

Posted on

Ever since he walked onto The X Factor UK stage back in 2010, we've all fallen in love with Liam's dance moves, his fear of spoons, and, most importantly, his angelic voice. And while we all had a brief moment of panic as One Direction went on hiatus, we can finally take a deep breath again, because Liam is back in full swing — this time on his own — ready to take over the #1 spot on your playlist once again.

In celebration of his new music, Liam stopped by BuzzFeed to play with some rescue puppies while revealing everything you've been dying to know — because there is no better sight than Liam Payne cuddling with some cute as hell pups. Here's what went down.

"If you could collaborate with one member of 1D, who would it be, why, and what would your music video be like?"

BuzzFeed

Liam Payne: I think I would collaborate best with Zayn because we do really similar types of music. And I would like our music video to be right here with these puppies, because this is too much fun right now.

"When you tour, will you do smaller shows or arenas?"

BuzzFeed

LP: I think I’d like to go in and play arenas. I love a big stage and I like running around. I actually measured it one time when we were on stage, and we used to do like 6 kilometers a night every time, so I’m used to running around a big stage. So I don’t know how I’d feel going back to a small — I do like smaller venues, it’s nice and intimate, but I love to do like really big shows, and I want to put on a great show for you guys with loads of different elements so we can all have a good time.

"Is your album going to mirror Strip That Down or is there going to be a mix of different genres?"

LP: Yes, there are sections of the album that are quite like “Strip That Down,” but there’s parts of it that are — there’s some ballads, there’s some hip-hop songs, there’s some more dance music. So I think there’s a really varied mix of different things that we have.

"Will 1D ever reunite?"

BuzzFeed

LP: Yes, I think we will reunite at some point in the future. We have to — I mean we’ve got an album we haven’t even toured yet, and I want to write some more songs as well with the boys.

"What was your favorite part about touring with the boys?"

BuzzFeed

LP: My favorite part about touring with the boys was when we were younger, we used to spend a lot of time together on the tour bus. When we did our first American tour, we had a really tiny, small bus, so it was just a lot of fun, just hanging out. And it was like, I don’t know, that was the time when we got to know each other best.

"Are we gonna hear any other exciting collaborations on the first album?"

LP: There’s talk of maybe doing a collaboration, but I can’t tell you who it is yet. But she is, uh, an artist. [laughs] That’s very open, isn’t it?

"I saw you tweeted Harry to congratulate him on Dunkirk. Have you seen the film yet? Were you surprised that Harry decided to go into acting?"

BuzzFeed

LP: No I’m not at all. I think honestly he’s really, really suited to the job, and Harry’s really good at what he does. And I wanted to congratulate him on his massive moment! Like, being in a Christopher Nolan action film — how amazing! Super cool. I haven’t seen it yet, but I’m planning on having a little event with my team and some of my family and going down and all of us watching it together, because I wanna make sure it’s in a nice setting. I haven’t been to a cinema in ages, and I like going to the cinema.

"How is the songwriting process as a solo artist compared to the songwriting process while in a band?"

BuzzFeed

LP: The songwriting process has been a lot different because you have to look a lot inside yourself for inspiration. It was different when I was writing with the boys because, you know, you have to have four people to please. So in a way it’s kind of easier as well, but it’s hard because, I don’t know, it’s very, very — it just relies on you. Which is nice, and there’s some really personal songs that I’ve done on the album, and there’s some that are done by other writers. 'Cause there are obviously a lot of great writers in the world, and I got to work with some great people like Pharrell and Ryan Tedder, [and] obviously Zedd at the moment, which has been great. So I’ve been really lucky with the people I’ve gotten to work with.

"What was the last text message you sent, and who was it to?"

LP: The last text message I sent was “Check the vids aha” to one of my friends, because I was doing some silly videos on Instagram. That was a lot more boring than I thought it was gonna be.

"The real question I'm dying to know is are you, Liam Payne, still afraid of spoons?"

BuzzFeed

LP: There’s actually a name for this, and it’s a long phobia they call it — I’m not sure [what it’s called]. But I’m no longer afraid of spoons.

"If you could collab with any female artist, who would it be?"

LP: I would collaborate with Nicki Minaj.

"Which tattoo is your favorite or the most meaningful?"

BuzzFeed

LP: I would say having my missus’ eye on me is a nice thing, because I like to know that she’s always got her eye on me, and I’ve always got my eye on her, which is nice.

"What is your go-to karaoke song, and can you give us a little performance?"

BuzzFeed

LP: My go-to karaoke song would be [starts singing] "I know when that hotline bling, that could only mean one thing." I love Drake.

"What was it like working with Zedd?"

LP: Zedd’s amazing — he’s really good at what he does. He’s super, super talented. Because I know a lot of people have a thing about DJs and stuff, but he’s more than that. He’s been playing piano since he was like 5 or something, so he’s an absolute musical genius. It was great working with him, and he’s open-minded and super collaborative with things, so he doesn’t mind if people take over a little bit. And that’s what we did with this song, “Get Low,” and I loved how it turned out. It’s one of my favorite songs we’ve done.

"What's your favorite memory of your career so far?"

BuzzFeed

LP: My favorite memory was when we first did Madison Square Garden. We popped out of the floor and it was just the most amazing feeling ever, knowing that we were in Madison Square Garden. And our album — we’d just broke the record for debuting at #1 on the charts, so that was a real fun memory of mine.

"What does a perfect day look like to you?"

LP: Oh, I never thought about that. I would wake up at around 9, go to the gym for a little bit. I’d sit and watch — I’d have the new series of Peaky Blinders out now, that would be a good day, so I don’t have to wait for ages. And then I would have an In-N-Out burger because they are the best thing known to man. That would be quite the perfect day.
