Dove Cameron has done a LOT since her Disney Channel days, when she played both titular characters on Liv and Maddie and Mal in the Descendants franchise.
She's starred in the TV series Schmigadoon!, appeared in movies like Good Mourning, and (of course) become a main pop girl with songs like "Breakfast" and "Boyfriend."
She's become more comfortable being her true self in the spotlight since publicly coming out as queer in 2020, which she described as her "first time ever really being [her]self publicly."
She told E! News, "I was afraid of people having access to the human parts of me in an industry that can be so anti-human. That was definitely an emotional thing, but it turned out to be the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Mentally, I'm so much better now."
Since then, she's also undergone a total style transformation. It started with her decision to dye her hair from blonde to brunette, which felt like a "total identity shift for [her]."
She told E! News, "I have so much genuine, emotional pain attached to being a blonde...When I dyed my hair, it was a reclamation of deciding who I was versus who I felt I always had to be. I feel like I have more fun now and I feel more in touch with myself. It's wild how something as small as a hair color can do that for us."
