15 Trends From The '90s I Hope Stick Around Forever, And 15 I Hope Stay Buried In The Past

    I wasn't around to appreciate the golden age of '90s fashion as more than, like, baby clothes, but I feel like I've lived vicariously through Topanga Lawrence and Lisa Turtle.

    A lot of '90s trends have made a comeback over the last few years, and I'm totally here for most of them. However, there are a few that I think are best left in the past with the Walkman and dial-up internet.

    So, without further ado, here are 15 '90s trends I hope stick around forever and 15 I hope we leave behind.

    1. Acid wash jeans will always be cool.

    In high school, I wore a pair of acid wash jeans from Wet Seal at least twice a week. I wonder if they're still in the back of my closet somewhere...

    2. As a short person, I have a personal vendetta against pedal pushers.

    They almost go down to my ankles, but they're not long enough to cuff. It's a lose/lose situation.

    3. The blowout hairstyle Topanga had is absolute goals.

    4. Bucket hats just aren't it.

    They're cute for the summertime, but I just don't think they're a forever kind of thing.

    5. Doc Martens are just about the coolest shoes you can own.

    6. Jelly sandals aren't worth feeling gross after, like, 15 minutes.

    They're like a sauna for your feet. 

    7. I will never give up on oversized flannels.

    Maybe this stems from my cringey hipster phase, but IMO, flannels should be a classic closet staple forever and ever.

    8. I just don't understand the point of sweater vests.

    Yes, they're cute, but like...won't your arms get cold? What are you gonna do in the winter, layer it over a sweatshirt? Please advise. 

    9. Overalls are high-key underappreciated.

    My love of overalls has gotten so out of hand that I have to actively prevent myself from buying more. 

    10. Velvet is so posh.

    12. Tie-dye will always be a vibe.

    I miss the days of tie-dying matching T-shirts with my Girl Scout troop. 

    13. Platform seakers are a broken bone waiting to happen.

    I say this as someone who wore wedges every day in middle school.

    14. Scrunchies are one of the best inventions ever made, and we should never stop wearing them.

    Not only are they better for your hair than the standard hair elastics, but they're also so much cuter. 

    15. I wouldn't wish the pain of a zigzag headband on anyone.

    There are a million better options if you want a headband.

    16. High-waisted pants are the superior hemline.

    17. We can leave the cargo pants to Kim Possible.

    22. Terry cloth headbands and wristbands are just a little gross, though.

    23. I recently hopped on the bike shorts train, and I'm never leaving.

    They're as comfy as leggings, but I never have to worry about them being so long that they bunch around my ankles or drag on the floor.

    24. I won't mind if we ditch skorts for good.

    They're like the mullet of pants — skirt in the front, shorts in the back.

    25. A denim jacket is always a good idea, IMO.

    26. Those thick, tinted sunglasses should never again be a summer staple.

    I love that we're embracing a more natural eyebrow look now, and I hope we never go back to over-tweezing.
