21 Male Movie Characters Who Were So Bad, They Almost Ruined The Entire Film

Ally's manager from A Star Is Born (2018) is trash.

We asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us which male movie characters are the worst. Here are the frustrating results.

Note: Some of these submissions include topics of sexual assault.

    1. Kylo Ren from the Star Wars franchise

Kylo Ren stabbing Han Solo with a lightsaber with a sad look on his face; Han is shocked, but helpless

"He goes to the dark side and murders a temple full of Jedi Padawans, commits mass genocide on an entire system, repeatedly tries to murder Rey, and just sucks on every level. I hate the toxicity that is Reylo, and I'm glad his character dies."

    2. Christian Grey from the 50 Shades of Grey movies

Ana asks "Are you going to make love with me now?" and Christian responds in a condescending way, "Two things. First, I don't make love. I fuck hard"
    Focus Features

"He’s as romantic as a dish sponge, and he's an emotionally abusive stalker who always needs to have things on his terms. He's presented as being romantically desirable for it, but he doesn’t deserve good things — he deserves jail time."

    3. Nick Young from Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

Nick looking at Rachel in a protective way while Eleanor grills her with questions
    Warner Bros. Pictures

"Nick is a neglectful person disguised as a dreamboat. He keeps misleading Rachel on how to deal with his family — even his friend knows Rachel is in danger of being harassed by his mother. His solution to reconcile his family’s snobbery towards Rachel is so childish, and he continues to put her in difficult situations throughout the movie."

    4. Tom Hansen from 500 Days of Summer (2009)

Tom and Summer sitting on a park bench; Tom sadly says: "You know what sucks? Realizing that everything you believe in is complete and utter bullshit. You know, destiny, and soul mates, and true love, and all that childhood fairy tale nonsense"
    Fox Searchlight Pictures

"He's exactly the type of guy who claims his 'sensitivity' is what causes girls not to like him, when it’s actually the fact that he’s just a giant jerk."

    5. Yon-suk from Train to Busan (2016)

Yon-suk worn out and stressed while taking everyone hostage on the bus
    Next Entertainment World

"He’s selfish, manipulative, and gets so many people killed for the sake of trying to save himself. As the movie goes on, his character just continuously makes everything worse."

    6. Arthur Fleck / Joker from Joker (2019)

Joker raising the corners of his lips to smile while there's blood spewing down from his nose
    Warner Bros. Pictures

"The whole movie is made to make you sympathize with Joker and see why he becomes a villain, but they royally fail."

    7. Christian Hughes from Midsommar (2019)

Christian looking shocked because he's been put into a bear carcass

"He totally minimizes and dismisses Dani's feelings, gaslights her about an entire trip to Sweden after her parents are murdered, and ignores her consistent panic attacks. I was VERY excited when he was burnt in a bear suit. All hail the Midsommar Queen."

    8. Peter Kavinsky from To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You (2020)

Peter defending Gen by saying: "She took that video, I told her that if she ever hurt you again then we were done" Lara Jean is visibly upset, and responds with: "So you knew? You denied it"

"He’s completely stuck on his ex-girlfriend, and the fact that he defends Gen knowing she posted the video of him and Lara Jean pisses me off!!! Lara Jean deserves John Ambrose."

    9. Cal Hockley from Titanic (1997)

Cal grabs Rose in a dominant manner, asking: "Where are you going? To him? To be a whore to a gutter rat?" Rose is determined to be with Jack, and responds with: "I'd rather be his whore than your wife"
    Paramount Pictures

"He's the absolute worst fiancé to Rose and is generally just an awful person. He's misogynistic, entitled, and does a lot of awful things to both Jack and Rose. He literally tries to frame him because he's completely selfish."

    10. Ernesto de la Cruz from Coco (2017)

Ernesto tricks Hector into having a drink with him, eventually poisoning him. Ernesto says: "I'm sending you off with a toast! To our friendship! I would move Heaven and Earth for you, mi amigo. Salud!"
    Disney / Pixar

"He poisons his partner and steals his music and guitar so he can become famous. He's the worst, and everyone needs to know it!"

    11. Rez Gavron (Ally's manager) from A Star Is Born (2018)

Ally's manager purposefully brings Jackson down by saying: "You single-handedly derailed her career, you understand that? She's never gonna say this to you. Just by staying married to you, she looks like a joke." Jackson looks depressed and defeated
    Warner Bros. Pictures

"The scene when Ally's manager tells Jackson he's bringing her down because of his mental health makes me want to scream — Jackson looks so defeated. Her manager is selfish and unmindful, and he deserves the worst."

    12. Scott Pilgrim from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)

Scott and Ramona walking together in the snow; Scott awkwardly expresses his feelings for Ramona by saying: "I just sort of feel like I'm on drugs when I'm with you." Ramona looks puzzled
    Universal Pictures

"This movie is bad enough, but I can't for the life of me tell if I'm supposed to think Scott Pilgrim is the hero. He treats women like eye candy, and he doesn't give a f*ck about their actual feelings."

    13. Mark Loring from Juno (2007)

Mark and a pregnant Juno are sitting on his couch, watching rock performances by bands. He looks very content and pleased, she looks perplexed by what she's watching
    Fox Searchlight Pictures

"He's a married man who's supposed to be with his angel wife, but eventually he tries to get with Juno, a pregnant high school student carrying his adopted baby."

    14. Professor Callahan from Legally Blonde (2001)

Professor Callahan sliding his hand up Elle's leg without permission; she's upset he assaults her, asking: "Are you hitting on me?" He responds with: "You're a beautiful girl -- I'm a man who knows what he wants"

"I've always deeply hated Professor Callaghan from Legally Blonde. The moment when he makes Elle doubt her intelligence by sexually assaulting her and inferring she's only doing well in his course because she's pretty is heartbreaking, no matter how many times you watch the movie."

    15. Steff from Pretty in Pink (1986)

Steff wearing sunglasses with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, insulting Andie in a cruel way because she rejected him. He tells her: "You're a bitch. You oughta see a doctor. That condition of yours could get a lot worse"
    Paramount Pictures

"Most of the guys from '80s movies are awful, especially Steff from Pretty in Pink. He's awful to Andie, and he never gets in trouble for it."

    16. Quentin "Q" Jacobsen from Paper Towns (2015)

Q and Margo are wandering around late at night, curious about the paper town they're exploring
    20th Century Fox

"All male main characters from John Green movie adaptations are whiny, especially Quentin from Paper Towns. He's weirdly philosophical for a teenager, and he thinks he's entitled to dating Margo. No thank you."

    17. Stanley Kowalski from A Streetcar Named Desire (1951)

Stanley is disheveled and upset, realizing he mistreated Stella; he's screaming her name, "Hey, Stella!" into the sky, begging for forgiveness
    Warner Bros. Pictures

"He's abusive, suspicious, and generally awful, but everyone seems to give him a pass because Marlon Brando is hot."

    18. George Wickham from Pride & Prejudice (2005)

Elizabeth Bennet and George looking at Mr. Darcy ride away on his horse with deep curiosity
    Focus Features

"Wickham is a liar, a creep, and a manipulative user who preys on young women. I sincerely hope Lydia annoys the hell out of him every damn day."

    19. Bluto from National Lampoon's Animal House (1978)

Bluto spying on a girl in her underwear through the window; he's standing on a ladder outside of her window
    Universal Pictures

"Every single male in Animal House is awful. There's so much sexual assault — this movie did not age well."

    20. Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind (1939)

Rhett apologizes to Scarlett by saying: "I'd like to extend an apology for my conduct of last night. I was very drunk, and quite swept off my feet by your charms." She's lying in her bed, looking down at her hands, having none of it

"He drunkenly sexually assaults his wife, and he doesn't really apologize for it."

    21. And Nate from The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Nate yelling at Andie out in the street with confidence, criticizing her job by saying: "I wouldn't care if you were out there pole dancing all night, as long as you did it with a little integrity"
    20th Century Fox

"As a child, I thought Andrea was wrong in the relationship, but then I rewatched it like a year ago and holy crap, this Nate guy is clearly jealous of Andrea's success. He constantly snubs her for genuinely liking the fashion world, and he always complains she's somehow being shallow. What a crybaby."
