We Need To Talk About How "Magic Mountain" Inspired A Generation Of Stoners

Look me in the eye and tell me that Dragon wasn't just a metaphor for a big ol' bong.

We've revisited the strangeness of Parallax, the terror of Jeopardy and, of course, the absolute gall of the claymation artist behind Plasmo, but now I want to turn the history books back to a chapter I like to call: The majestically baked animals of Magic Mountain.

If you grew up in Australia in the '90s, you're probably all too familiar with this iconic show, which told the story of Lion, Dragon, Panda and Tortoise and their adventures atop their home on — you guessed it — Magic Mountain.

The four friends would get up to all sorts of hijinks around their enchanted paradise, all set to this soundtrack, which I've gotta say, still slaps more than 20 years on.

While on the surface it seemed like the premise of the show was fairly innocent, upon rewatching several episodes, I can now confirm, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that every animal on that mountain was stoned out of their minds.

Tortoise, Panda and Lion were always getting up in Dragon's personal space, begging him to blow his magic smoke in their faces.

At which point, the whole crew would get all giddy and lethargic and, well, high AF.

There was even an entire episode where Lion felt his whole body disappear after he huffed on Dragon's smoke.

But for the most part, they all seemed pretty happy just vibing out in their crystal cave, dancing to their ~wicked~ tunes and enjoying the high.

So if you're an ageing, Australian millennial who uses weed as an emotional crutch — congrats! You were groomed by a bunch of animals on a children's television program.
