If you didn’t know, Oprah, Steven Spielberg, and Quincy Jones are among the producers behind a film adaption of The Color Purple musical, which itself is based on Alice Walker’s 1982 novel and Spielberg’s 1985 film of the same name. (Spielberg and Jones were among the original film's producers, while Oprah scored an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Sofia in the film.)

Halle Bailey is front and center in the new trailer as a young Nettie Harris, further proving this is a major year for The Little Mermaid star. (Ciara plays the older Nettie in the film.)

Then there’s Fantasia, who leads the film as the older Celie, and Danielle Brooks, who plays Sofia. They’re both returning to their characters after highly applauded portrayals on Broadway.
