Maybe Lizzo will get her chance to play Ursula when they inevitably do another Little Mermaid remake in 20 years.

For example, after seeing him in Heroes, a lot of folks really wanted to see Zachary Quinto play Spock. He ultimately donned the pointy ears and bowl cut in three movies, and may appear as the human-Vulcan hybrid in another next year.

Speaking of Star Trek, Patrick Stewart, who's been playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard since the '80s, was a fan favorite to play X-Men leader Professor Charles Xavier — another role he's been playing for decades at this point.

Of course, for every fancast that comes true, there are plenty that die on the vine.

There were people who wanted Miles Teller and Lana Del Rey to star as Elvis and Priscilla Presley in Baz Luhrmann's biopic about the King.

Even Priscilla Presley herself wanted Del Rey to portray her, but the role ended up going to Olivia DeJonge, while Austin Butler played Elvis.

And there was a fair bit of outcry when it was announced that Melissa McCarthy had been cast as Ursula in the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, despite fans' hope that Lizzo (who'd actively campaigned for the role) would step into the sea witch's tentacles.

McCarthy was even reportedly taken aback when she found out she got the part when Lizzo was right there.
