1. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

I read it in the summer and the story is also mainly set during the summer time. A simply beautiful LGBT coming of age story for anyone who wants to experience that summer vibe.

3. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

Most books by Neil Gaiman make me feel summery for some reason, but in year nine (8th grade) my English teacher gave me Neverwhere for the summer. Honestly, something about Door and Marquis put me in a really summery mindset because of the adventure they represented.

5. The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver

Who says a crime novel can't get you jazzed for summer? I spent many days at the beach sunbathing with this book in my hands. It gave me a feeling of anticipation for what the summer could bring – even if those events can be exhilaratingly grim.

It's set on a Greek island, and Gerry spends so much of his time outside, exploring the summer landscape and studying all the creatures it offers. I haven't re-read it for a couple of years, but I think of summer every time someone mentions this book.

12. On the Island by Tracey Garvis-Graves

It's about a student and his tutor who go to the Maldives over the summer with his family as he has recently recovered from cancer and needs to catch up with school. Their seaplane crashes and they get stuck on an uninhabited island. They're there for three years and the book takes you through that time. One of my favourite summer reads.

I bought it years and years ago for cheap at a bookstore in Somerset and since then I've read it on every holiday I've been on at least once! It's a perfect fun and easy to read story that always gets me in the mood for traveling and adventure.
