Breakups can be ROUGH. While some relationships end with a clean break, others go down in flames.
We asked members of the BuzzFeed Community to share their pettiest breakup stories. Here are some of the shocking results:
1. "My ex left a sex tape of herself with another man with a note saying she ‘found someone more compatible.' I was only 20."
2. "He left all my clothes on the side of the road that I used to pass on my way to work. I didn’t even realize they were my clothes for a few seconds, and I even chuckled until I recognized my hoodie."

3. "While still inside me, he finished and said, 'I don't think this is working.' We had been dating for eight months."
4. "We had been arguing a lot leading up to this Halloween party because I was convinced he was having a thing with another girl. But we had a few laughs about the idea of dressing up as salad vegetables together at this party while everyone else would be going for a sexy look. The night of the party, he turned up as sexy zombie Danny from Grease holding hands with the other girl, who was dressed as zombie Sandy. That’s how he told me it was over. I was dressed as a carrot."
5. "He dumped me the day I graduated from medical school — after sitting through the entire ceremony. He said it was because I was doing what I wanted to do and he was too scared to move somewhere new. The photos from the day were ruined, and it was such a negative way to end an amazing achievement."
6. "My parents were flying home for the holidays, and they came in a few days early to meet my boyfriend. Then we were all supposed to be heading to Puerto Rico for the weekend to attend my college roommate’s wedding. I saw him the weekend before, and everything was fine. My parents arrived Monday night, so Tuesday morning, I texted him to firm up plans for dinner after work, and he responded that he was on his way to the airport to fly home for the holidays. I asked about the plane tickets for the wedding, because we agreed he would get those if I got the hotel, rental car, etc. He never replied. So I was thoroughly embarrassed, missed one of my best friend’s weddings, and haven't heard from him since. I got a notification that he looked at my LinkedIn profile last year. Good riddance."
7. "I was having sex with this guy and he seemed very disinterested and distracted. When I asked him, he said, 'I'd rather be dead than be with you.'"
8. "I lived in an all-girls dorm, and he called me to open the door for him. I thought it was sooo sweet for him to surprise me, only, when I got there, another girl was coming to the door at the same time. She was like, 'I told you I was on my way to the door!' He never even made eye contact with me. He just walked upstairs with her. I don’t think we talked again after that. I just took that L and moved on."
9. "This guy I had been talking to for a month told me he was ending things because he had a dream that I was the devil. He said it felt like Jesus was trying to give him a sign not to be with me. I have no fucking clue."
10. "I had given him shoes for his birthday and wrote, 'I’m so glad you walked into my life!' on the box. We broke up a few months later, and he gave the shoes back and said, 'Have fun walking out of my life.'"
11. "On my birthday, my ex told me he needed time to think about whether he wanted to be in a relationship. The next day, he announced his engagement on Facebook to his ex-girlfriend. Apparently he'd been seeing her again behind my back. They got married a couple of months later. Needless to say, the marriage barely lasted a year. After the divorce, he shamelessly messaged me to see how I was doing. I ignored him!"
12. "My high school boyfriend simply changed his Facebook status from 'in a relationship' to 'single.' We didn’t go to the same school, and I had no idea until someone pointed it out to me halfway through the day. We were only together for four months, but even 15-year-old me realized how rude that was."
13. "I woke up to a note that said, 'I'm leaving you for your cousin. I stopped feeling it a while ago.' My cousin didn't even like him!"
14. "I was told, 'You're more Toms and I'm more Nike.' Yes, he used the shoes we were wearing as a comparison to our breakup."
15. "I broke up with a guy in high school five days after he asked me to be his girlfriend. The reason? We made out for the first time and it was awful. It was a lot of teeth, and all I could taste was the chicken nuggets he had for lunch."
16. "My ex-boyfriend dumped me and said, 'God doesn’t want us to be together.' What a coward. Tell me the real reason!"

17. "He hooked up with my best friend, so I invited them both to go hiking with me about an hour away (and I drove). As soon as we got to the trails, I 'forgot' my sweater in the car and went back to get it. I just drove home and never spoke to either of them again. They got a ride, calm down."
18. "I didn't mean for this to be petty, but I was 16 and didn't know what to do. I made him a friendship bracelet, gave it to him, and said, 'Because I think friendship is all we should have between us.'"
19. "Over Snapchat. They sent me a picture of someone else with the caption, 'I’ve found the love of my life, sorry,' and then they blocked me on everything."
20. "My ex started flirting with someone at his CrossFit gym who is 13 years younger than he is. After five years of dating and two years of living together, he came home to me (on the day my uncle died, no less) and said, 'I don't love you anymore. I think you should take the dog and go.' Oh, and as I was in tears packing my things on the last day I ever saw him, he had the balls to say, 'I'm going to need your Costco card back.'"
21. "I was dating someone semi–long distance (he lived an hour away and we only saw each other on weekends). He reconnected with an old friend and assured me there was nothing to worry about. We got into a random fight over text right before New Year's Eve, and four days later, he was Facebook official with the other girl. We never even said we were over! On top of it all, this was two weeks before I was scheduled to donate a kidney."
22. "We were dating and it was getting serious, or so I thought, because he asked me to do a trial move-in for a month. If that went well, we would officially move in together. After a week and a half of our trial, he told me he didn't think he could fall in love with me. I felt sick to my stomach and moved all my stuff out that night. I cried for the next week and couldn't leave my apartment. I blocked him permanently."
23. "I had an ex tell me he thought he should be with another Hufflepuff."
24. "I dated a guy for about two months, but he was very noncommunicative and considered texting more than once a week 'too clingy.' I'm not clingy at all and like my own space, but he wouldn't even respond to a text asking if our plans were still on. Eventually, he just stopped responding to anything! A couple of weeks later, he got a mutual friend to tell my best friend to tell me that he didn't want to see me anymore. I wasn't even upset — just pissed off at how spineless he was. I texted him to say I got the message and was fine with it because I preferred to date vertebrates anyway, and within the hour, he'd blocked me, deleted me, and basically removed all methods by which I could ever contact him again. I was pretty cool with that."
