My boyfriend and I live in New York, and if there's one thing we disagree on, it's which side of the subway stairs to walk on.
Most subway stations have stairs that are divided by a handrail going down the middle, like this:
In my mind, both the left and the right sections have a path for people walking up the stairs and people walking down the stairs. Therefore it is RUDE to walk up the stairs hand in hand.
But my boyfriend said in his mind, the entire right section is for people walking up the stairs and the left section is for walking down the stairs. Therefore to him, people obeying my unwritten rules are being rude.
Which one of us is right? Because we will never stop fighting about it.
