In case you missed the drama, Taylor Swift has put Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun on blast for the second time in less than six months.
You probably remember that back in June, Taylor expressed devastation that her former record label boss, Scott Borchetta, had sold the company to Scooter Braun for $300 million.
A couple of months later, Taylor revealed that she planned to re-record her masters in November 2020 when she's legally allowed to do so.
However, today Taylor has claimed that Scott and Scooter are effectively holding her music hostage, preventing her from performing a medley of hits at the AMAs next week, and blocking her old music and performances from being used in an upcoming Netflix documentary.
Don’t know what else to do
Taylor went on to allege that Scott will only grant her permission to use her own music in the performance and documentary if she agrees to both abandon her plan to re-record her masters and stop speaking publicly about him and Scooter.
Shortly after releasing her statement, Taylor headed over to Tumblr where she liked numerous posts from fans expressing outrage. Here are just a few...
1. "'Stop bullying me by publicly discussing all the abusive tactics I've used on you or I'll ruin your entire life,' is peak rich white man."
2. "No other label does this to an artist when they swap labels. This is personal, it's unprofessional and it's fucking disgusting."
3. "This is a full display of two men abusing the power they have because they CAN. I'm grossed out."
4. "What's so fucked up is that when Lover was released, both Scooter and Scott tried to act nice and positive and tweeted nice things to make Taylor look like she's the bad guy."
For reference, here's Scott's post about Lover.
And here's Scooter's.
Regardless of what has been said the truth is you don’t make big bets unless you are a believer and always have been. Brilliant album with #Lover. Congrats @taylorswift13. Supporting was always the healthier option 😊 #brilliantalbum #brilliantcampaign congrats
