Mindy Kaling Explained Why She Won't Reveal Her Daughter's Paternity

And it actually makes a lot of sense.

You probably know Mindy Kaling as a phenomenally successful actor, writer, producer, and director who has starred in a range of shows including The Office and The Mindy Project.

You probably also know Mindy as a doting mother to her 18-month-old daughter, Katherine.

However, when Mindy announced she was pregnant back in 2017, she was publicly single and decided not to reveal the identity of her baby's father.

And when Katherine arrived in December 2017, Mindy left the father's information off her birth certificate. Since then, Mindy has refused to share Katherine's face on social media and has remained tight-lipped about her paternity.

Just last week she gave an interview to Glamour and explained the reason for her keeping Katherine away from social media. She said: "I feel entitled to have privacy about my daughter and my relationships. It's really essential to my life that there be something not everybody knows about."

However, Mindy has now explained her reasoning for keeping Katherine's paternity private — and it actually makes a lot of sense.

Speaking to the New York Times, Mindy said: "My feeling is, that until I speak to my daughter [about her paternity], I'm not going to talk to anyone else about it."

And she went on to say that as well as keeping her daughter's paternity and identity under wraps, she probably won't be using her experience of motherhood as material for her work either.

She explained: "I could write stories about mothers, about my relationship with my daughter, but I don't know. It gets so Postcards From the Edge. I think people are often surprised that for someone who seems as open as I am on social media and who writes things that seem drawn from my life, I find that stuff really private."

However, she did reveal motherhood has affected her personality, explaining that she's surprised by the level of patience she has for her daughter.

She said: "I'm very impatient and having a baby requires an amount of patience that I was worried about. But they don't tell you that the thing will look so much like you, and do things that are so sweet and adorable, that you’ll naturally not have the same impatience that you would have with a stranger or someone who works for you."
