6 Uncertainties About Kim Kardashian's Future After The Robbery

Will things ever be the same?

Two masked men entered her apartment, gagged and bound Kim, held a gun to her head, and locked her in the bathroom. They stole two cell phones and millions of dollars' worth of jewellery.

Unsurprisingly, Kim has been left traumatised by the ordeal and has been on total lock down since.

So far, Khloé Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, and Kris Jenner have spoken about the ordeal on Kim's behalf. Khloé revealed that Kim "isn't doing well" and had been left deeply affected by the "emotional terror." Kourtney confirmed this, saying that Kim was "not doing great" and is still "really shaken up". Kris said that Kim's recovery from the ordeal would be a "process."

In fact, Kim has yet to speak publicly about the ordeal and has made no moves on social media, other than to unfollow a few people on Twitter last week. And there are a few key questions about the ~future~ that are troubling us.

1. Is this ~the end~ of Kim Kardashian?!

Reports are suggesting that Kim has “no desire” to return to her “old life,” and just wants to be with her family and children. Other reports suggest that Kim has been "rattled to the core" and “nothing will ever be the same” for her. It’s unclear at this point just what her “old life” encompasses, but it could mean anything from being photographed less, going to fewer public events or parties, giving fewer interviews, and opening up less on social media.

@EW I'm glad she's ok but, it's a learning moment & she is going to change how she operates as a result @KimKardashian good for you

It’s also been reported that Kim is undergoing therapy in order to deal with the aftermath of the event, with Khloé Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and Chrissy Teigen all revealing that she’s “going through a process” of attempting to deal with the horrifying ordeal. It’s undoubtedly too early to tell what this means for Kim going forward – we just hope she’s OK.

2. When will she return to the public eye?

Splash News

Understandably, Kim has retreated from public view over the past couple of weeks and has only been photographed twice (the picture above was the second time) since the robbery. On both occasions it was clear she didn’t want to be spotted – she wore a hoodie pulled up over her head to disguise her face.

Within days of the robbery, she cancelled a makeup masterclass she was due to present with her makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, in Dubai on Oct. 14. This week, she cancelled her birthday appearance at the Hakkasan nightclub in Vegas on Oct. 28. This drew attention because this appearance is part of a six-figure deal she has with the club to appear there four times in 2016. So far she has attended twice – in April and June.

And this week, Kim’s assistant updated her website with a message telling fans that Kim would be taking some much-needed time off.

She also wrote that her apps would be updated by friends, family members, and the assistant herself in the interim – all of which suggested Kim would be away from the public eye indefinitely.

Can't wait for the KUWTK episodes after the robbery

Season 12 broke for its midseason hiatus on Sept. 4. During this hiatus, the show is off air but the family continue filming so that the season concludes virtually in real time. The show was in production at the time of the robbery, but all production was halted “indefinitely” after the incident.

The only other time in KUWTK history that filming has stopped was after Lamar Odom’s near-fatal overdose.

Filming was paused for seven days until he had made positive progress and was flown to LA to continue his recovery. It will be interesting to see how the robbery is handled when KUWTK returns this weekend. The teaser-trailer for the remainder of Season 12 has been released, with no reference to Kim’s ordeal.

However, a week after filming was halted “indefinitely,” the family went on to celebrate the Season 12 wrap party last week.

It’s therefore unclear whether Season 12 filming actually concluded early, or whether Kim or the robbery will make an appearance at all in the final episodes of Season 12.

4. Will Kim appear in Season 13 of KUWTK?

Photos of Kendall Jenner being filmed at an event earlier this week has confirmed that the KUWTK cameras are rolling once again – this time for Season 13. In recent years KUWTK has only gone between one and three months between seasons, which means that Season 13 ~could potentially~ return in the new year.

Given that Kim has cancelled all appearances until then and doesn't seem up to being out and about in public, it's unclear whether she’ll appear in the early episodes of the season – or even at all.

5. Or, will the robbery be addressed in a KUWTK special OR a primetime TV interview?

I will be so dead if next season on "Keeping up with the kardashians" they have a special on Kim's robbery 😂😂💀💀

Earlier this week reports were swirling that Kris Jenner was pitching a “two-hour stand-alone special” about the robbery in a “part reality show, part news programme” with the capacity to become a bigger TV milestone “than the Royal Wedding”.

The family have, of course, turned real-life events into specials during the course of KUWTK’s history.

E!

For example, Kim’s wedding to Kris Humphries was turned into a two-part special, and Caitlyn Jenner’s transition was documented in two hourlong specials during Season 10. However, these particular reports about a robbery special have been dismissed by Kris’s representatives.

There have also been rumours of Kim giving an interview about the robbery to a big network news channel, for a fee of $1 million, but this too has been denied.

It therefore remains to be seen where, when, and how Kim chooses to break her silence on the ordeal – and, indeed, whether she ever addresses it at all.

6. Will Kim's social media be affected?

Kim has been ahead of her time when it comes to social media and has utilised technology as a celebrity in an unprecedented way. She used Twitter long before other stars to communicate with fans and often used them as a “focus group” for her businesses. She’s one of the most followed people on Instagram, has created her own website and app, customized her own "Kimojis," has regular talks with Snapchat (the addition of the dalmatian to the dog filter? All her idea, by the way), and of course there’s her game, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, which has made over $100 million since its launch in 2014.

However, before the robbery occurred, the family expressed concerns over the fact that Snapchat shares your location with other users.

E!

In fact, there was an episode on KUWTK devoted to the family trying to convince Kylie Jenner to practice safer methods when using Snapchat. And it was also noted that uploading to Instagram at the rate that Kim does could make her vulnerable to people tracking her whereabouts.

In fact, French police even said that social media could have contributed to Kim becoming targeted by the robbers. Since the incident, most of the Kardashian/Jenners have returned to social media – albeit posting far less than usual.

Khloé has, however, confirmed that the family are re-evaluating how they all use social media in the wake of the incident.

The Ellen Show

Chrissy Teigen also confirmed that she and Kim have spoken about social media since the incident, too.

And despite the rest of her family returning to social media, Kim has maintained complete radio silence. And it’s perhaps this which makes her withdrawal from the public eye more noticeable.

In the past, Kim has pulled back from the public eye on just three occasions – after the births of her children, North and Saint, and after her divorce from Kris Humphries. But when she was publicly invisible during this period, she still maintained her online persona, updating fans with her thoughts and photos via Twitter and Instagram. Let's not forget – the famous ~belfie~ was taken during this period after North.

It’s unclear whether Kim will change her social media strategy long-term – but let's hope this robbery doesn't force such a paragon of social media usage offline.
