How The Kardashians Actually Owned The Taylor-Kanye Feud

This is a masterclass in how to boost TV ratings.

You'll be aware of the drama going down between Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West. If you're not, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?

The Kardashians have a long and varied history of manipulating the media for maximum exposure. And BOY have they outdone themselves this time.

First of all, let's look at the timeline of all these events.

Kanye released "Famous" back in February, to public uproar. Taylor then made a thinly veiled dig at Kanye during her Grammys acceptance speech just a few weeks later.

But it wasn't until last month that Kim gave an interview to GQ. And this is when things really get interesting, because she revealed that there was a video in existence showing Kanye discussing the song with Taylor – who also gave approval on camera.

    Kim said:

She totally approved that. He even called her to get it approved. Rick Rubin was there. So many respected people in the music business heard that [conversation] and knew. It was funny because [on the call with Kanye, Taylor] said, β€˜When I get on the Grammy red carpet, all the media is going to think that I’m so against this, and I’ll just laugh and say, β€˜The joke’s on you, guys. I was in on it the whole time.’ And I’m like, wait, but [in] your Grammy speech, you completely dissed my husband just to play the victim again.

Now, the timing of this was perfect. Season 12 of Keeping Up With the Kardashians was in filming, and just two weeks before the magazine came out, Kim filmed a scene in which she discussed the interview with Kourtney.

The Kardashians have, throughout their 12-season reign, used teaser trailers to maximise media attention and guarantee ratings.

And this week was no different. They released a trailer on Thursday ahead of the show on Sunday.

Kim Kardashian exposing Taylor on #KUWTK 😭

But the storyline in the trailer that they chose to release was, of course, the drama between Kim, Kanye, and Taylor. And the timing was interesting – it dropped during one of the worst weeks of Taylor Swift's career, PR-wise.

The Kardashians seem to have capitalised on this negativity, choosing to go in hard with this storyline ~~exposing~~ Taylor to create interest in their show.

And by releasing the trailer, everyone was talking about the Kardashians. Everyone was excited to tune in and watch exactly what Kim had to say.

can't wait to watch Kim expose Taylor on KUWTK tonight!

If I could eat popcorn, I would tonight for #kuwtk. Can't wait for Kim to talk about her amazing GQ interview. She's a queen.

Especially when she tweeted this just ahead of the show airing, ramping up interest even more.

Wait it's legit National Snake Day?!?!?They have holidays for everybody, I mean everything these days! 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍

And then came Kim's decision to release the footage showing Kanye talking about the song with Taylor on Snapchat, immediately after the show.

do u guys follow me on snap chat? u really should ;-)

Doing so moves the story along and creates a new narrative – one where the Kardashians are at the fore. And it means that there will likely be a surge of interest in last night's episode – as well as next week's, even if the situation is never discussed again.

Oh, and people are already excited for an episode in which all of this Snapchat drama is addressed.

Daaamn can't wait to watch this drama on KUWTK πŸ˜‚ i wonder how they reacted. They'll probably gonna show it on the next season πŸ˜‚

Can't wait till the kuwtk episode where they taking about this

Never let it be said that the Kardashians don't know how to get people talking.
