    1. Restore stained grout on your tiled floors and walls with a grout pen that's mold-resistant and covers up to 60 meters of grout area., Amazon

Promising review: "I have 12-inch white tile in my whole house that is 20 years old. Even though I have kept it looking nice, the grout still was getting dark. I cleaned the grout and let it dry good 'til the next day then used the grout pen. It looks like it is brand-new. One thing that I found out was that if the tip of the pen starts to look worn you can just pull it out and turn it over — it is the same tip on both ends. It will take some time to do the whole house but it looks so great that I will just do a section at a time 'til I finish. One other thing that I did was run my finger down the grout line after I apply the grout pen then wipe down the tile line with a paper towel so no other cleanup was necessary." —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $8.99 (available in three colors and two sizes).

    2. Add a peel-and-stick subway tile backsplash to give your kitchen (or bathroom) an upgrade that doesn't require any actual tiling work.

Promising review: "I have planned to install a backsplash in our kitchen for a long time now but I hate tiling and grouting. I did a ton of research on vinyl peel and stick tile and knew it would be the best product for me. No mess, quick install, don't have to seal any grout, and overall a simple process. I watched a lot of install videos and purchased a cutting mat, a good box cutter, and a straight edge. The most tedious part is overlapping the grout lines, you do have to be a perfectionist and patient for this part or the tiles will look off. I knew I would be caulking around all the edges so I didn't focus on making the edge tiles straight because if they were uneven at the bottom they would be covered by caulk but you have to keep them as level as possible. Overall the project took about half a day and I do get compliments on it." —xliu

Get a 10-pack of 12x12 panels from Amazon for $31.99.

    3. Or go with a more colorful peel-and-stick faux-gel tile backsplash that's mold-, heat-, and moisture-resistant.

Promising review: "We did a kitchen facelift this summer, repainting and making everything look fresh. We were looking at The Home Depot version of these, which are more than double the price. We decided to go for these instead and they are amazing!! I put them up myself in about two hours. I did buy the adhesive spray just in case but it wasn’t needed, even for the few I had to peel off and re-stick to center correctly. These aren’t too difficult to apply but definitely require patience. It is 100% worth the buy for a DIY affordable update!" —Hope Consilvio

    Get a 10-pack from Amazon for $35.99.

    4. Update the showerhead and faucet in your bathroom to give yourself a mini spa experience.

Promising review: "Easy to install and it looks great. It isn't made from heavy-duty metal, but I am in a rental and I want something to last while I'm here. I wash my dog super often due to allergy issues with his skin. This helps a TON! No more plastic cup and 10-minute bath for pup and human! I just tested his bath time at two and half minutes 😂. Instructions have a step-by-step guide with diagrams." —Rachel Humphrey

Get the showerhead for $25.99 and the faucet for $26.99+ (available in four finishes) from Amazon.

    5. Bring your worn-out floors back to life with a restorative Howard Products Wood Polish & Conditioner that uses beeswax to help give luster to any wood surface — floors, tables, legs...whatever!, Amazon

Promising review: "This product is worth every penny and goes a very long way. We had tired, oak floors that haven’t been refinished in over 50 years. They were dried out and washed out. This product took away decades in an hour with a few rags and a lot of elbow grease. One word of caution, floors are very slippery for a few days after. Be very careful walking around. Bonus, it smells amazing. It has a natural orange peel smell that is fresh and clean and not at all harsh or chemical. Highly, highly recommend." —GMD

Get it from Amazon for $13.99.

    6. Use a set of magnetic decorative hinges to give your garage door that carriage look without that carriage price — and they don't require any drilling or tools, just stick them on and bam! Instant curb appeal.

A customer review before and after photo showing garage door with and without the hinges

Promising review: "The only thing I don’t like is that kids think they are real and walk up and try to hang on the handles, which obviously just come right off. I have to admit it’s hysterical, it does teach the kids to quit messing around with things they shouldn’t because they think they break them... it’s downright comical. Other than that, you would never know they are magnetic. They stay on, you can pull them off easily to wash the doors and then just put right back on. Heavy rains and they didn’t come off. It’s -20 outside now, and they're still stuck on with no problems. I got three sets — one double door and one single door, looks perfect." —Rummy3

Get it from Amazon for $11.33+ (available in seven styles/combos).

    7. Create a charming accent wall with peel-and-stick wallpaper that can be easily removed when it's time to get your security deposit back.

A wall with the gray and white wallpaper installed

Promising review: "I'm very happy with this! The wall I put it on is about 9 ft. wide-by-8 ft. high, there is one window, and my baseboards are about 6 inches high — I ordered three rolls but only used two (with waste). Our house is VERY old so the walls are not flat and the corners are not an even 45 degrees, that's why I had more waste than I think I would have in a newer home. I did not have trouble matching the pattern (I recommend matching up the side from top to bottom then smoothing it out from there rather than going from top to bottom). I was able to cut around the windows with ease; repositioning was easy. It's a little awkward at first, but once you get the first piece up it the rest is easy. I did this myself and it took about two and half hours (it took about 40 minutes just to get started because our walls are so wonky, so I imagine a flat plumb wall would be much faster). I used a flat plastic paper-smoothing tool to smooth it out as well as the palms of my hands. I wouldn't hesitate to use this product again." —Common Sense

Get it from Amazon for $17.03+ (available in four colors).

    8. Or try an investment-worthy roll of magnetic dinosaur print wallpaper that's just so dinomite.

    9. Reseal all those unsightly cracks in your tub and tile by filling them up with caulk sealant to help make your bathroom look new again.

A person placing the sealant on a sink

Promising review: "I'm a newbie when it comes to home improvement and I wasn't sure how to caulk my tub but I watched YouTube videos and thought I could figure it out. I scraped off all the old caulk with a utility knife/scraper (this took about two hours because I had multiple levels of caulk). I added painter's blue tape to create a line so that after caulking I would just remove the blue tape without an issue (similar to painting). Then I proceeded to use this caulk. No gun needed. Just open and squeeze. I used my wet finger to press down to make sure it is completely in. Immediately after, I removed the blue painter's tape and waited 72 hours until it was dry. Then I applied the Sashco Sealants Clear Lexel Adhesive Caulk, I added this because I wanted an extra level of protection. This is clear and you cannot see the mess at all so I didn't use the painter's blue tape. I waited another 72 hours. It all worked out beautifully and now my tub has perfectly white edges all around. It has held up very well. I did this about four months ago." —Rose S

Get it from Amazon for $13.12.

    10. Upgrade your countertops to faux granite with a DIY paint kit instead of spending a fortune to replace them.

    A freshly painted countertop

Promising review: "I found out about this kit a few weeks ago. I redid my mother's countertops first and was so pleased with the results, I bought a second kit and did mine this weekend. I am not a crafty person, so if I can do it, anyone can. Just be sure you follow the step-by-step instructions on the included DVD. They came out great!" —Sarah W. Fallon

Get it from Amazon for $75+ (available in four colors).

    11. Add privacy and a touch of elegance with "leaded-glass" film that'll make your windows and glass doors look super expensive.

    Window film is available in 17.5'' x 78.7'', 17.5'' x157.4, 23.6'' x 118.1'', 35.4'' x 78.7'', 35.4'' x 157.4" sizes and can be trimmed or combined to fit any size window glass.

Promising review: "This film was just what I needed. It provides enough privacy without blocking light. I didn’t have any problems with it not sticking to the window. You just have to make sure the windows are very clean and remember to peel off the backing and spray lots of water before sticking it on the glass!!! I used an old credit card as a squeegee to get rid of the air bubbles. The application was very easy. I highly recommend this product!!!" —Selenable

Get it from Amazon for $12.98+ (available in five sizes).

    12. Or try pleated fabric shades for some added privacy without totally blocking the light.

A window with the shades installed

Promising review: "I live in California really close to the beach. The house I'm renting doesn't have air conditioning and it gets hot! I bought a window air conditioner for my casement window (slides horizontally instead of up and down), which doesn't let me lower the blinds over the A/C unit. I was trying to figure out a way to close the gap next to the air conditioner and these work perfectly! You can trim them to size and simply stick them to the bottom of your installed blinds. They keep the sun and heat out and give me privacy. Very happy!" —Shelley R

Get pack of two from Amazon for $20 (available in sizes 36" x 72").

    13. Swap your old cabinet and drawer handles to update your kitchen without having to do any renovations.

Promising review: "These handles are great! I love the look of the cup drawer handles but did not want to spend $5/handle at the big box home improvement store. At this price for 10, you cannot beat the price of these — I did have to purchase longer screws in order to install them though. Otherwise, this is a great product!" —Nelly and her Nerd

Get a pack of 10 from Amazon for $24.95.

    14. Keep your memories alive and give your home some personalization with a gallery wall kit that includes everything you need to create one — including seven frames, a hanging template, hardware, and even some pretty black-and-white prints that you can use or replace.

A gallery wall laid out in someone's livingroom

Promising review: "This is awesome! Why isn't everyone including the outline with exactly where to put the nails? It turned out so cute, and my husband loved how easy it was to hang! Just make sure to check you're using the right size nail prior to putting holes in your wall!" —Megan Lingerfelt

Get it from Amazon for $52.99+ (available in black, white, and walnut).

    15. Give your old and tattered hand-me-down furniture a fun and unique coat of chalked paint — it'll provide all your pieces a soft matte, cozy look.

Promising review: "I'm slowly doing a DIY remodel on the upstairs of my house. I'm basically taking everything we own and giving it an upgrade. I got this paint for many things — one of those being my dining room table. I do A LOT of crafting. I redid my kitchen myself, including my cabinets, and went from oak to glazed antique. So I'm familiar with paints, sealants, and stains. I use paint daily. And I use chalk paint the most. And this is my favorite. The quality is great and the coverage is better than any other out there. I'm not going to bash any other name brands in a review but I am so happy I found a chalk paint that I don't have to slather on and waste and that doesn't give me that thick, goopy look. I got linen white for my table legs and I got charcoal for my tabletop and seat tops. I also used the charcoal on a lot of the accent pieces in my dining room." —Kimber

Get it from Amazon for $18.95+ (available in 12 colors).

    16. Make your tiny space seem a little bigger with perfectly placed mirrors, which will also help in your quest to capture the perfect OOTD pic for Insta.

Promising review: "Love this mirror, really makes my living room feel larger with its size. The seller has great customer service — the first time I ordered it was all broken because of bad handling, so I talked to them about it, sent photos, and they sent me a replacement as soon as possible. A person installing the draft guard in brown

Promising review: "I wanted something that would keep the noise out, to be honest. I live in a small NYC apartment with roommates, and have French doors. I wanted something to fit underneath that would serve specifically to reduce noise, but also not be a pain when I opened and closed the doors. It works wonderfully! It reduces the noise level from the outside, and vice versa. The talking and TV in the living room are muted, and I have been told my phone conversations are quieter! So perfect for what I needed!" —Meagan

    23. Or try a thick foam weatheringstripping tape designed specifically to help you weather-, dust-, and sound-proof your windows.

    24. Easily install a set of flame-retardant socket sealers designed to stop the cold air from leaking into your house and messing with your warm and cozy home.

The 24-piece set includes 16 outlet sealers, 6 switch plates, and 2 decorative covers.

Promising review: "Socket sealer. Say it with me. Socket sealer. Alliteration can be so much fun. Okay, now with that out of our system, down to brass tacks. I love these. They're cheap and easy to install. They block the draft that is sure to come out of an electrical outlet or a light switch. I've used these in apartments and in houses. They work both ways. Just unscrew the plate, slap one of these bad boys in, and screw the plate back in. Just be sure to not touch metal to metal or skin to metal. It's a good idea to flip the breaker to deactivate the outlets you're installing these on. Otherwise, you'll give yourself a nice jolt. Or three. You know how everyone tells you not to stick a fork into an outlet? The same principle applies here except your finger is the fork and you can't taste purple for a while. So do yourself the favor of flipping the breaker before installing these. Don't make the same mistake as I did. Once. Or maybe three times. I can't remember too good now." —Frequency Jones

Get the 24-piece set from Amazon for $2.88.

    25. Erase all those tiny holes in your wall with a bottle of very handy drywall repair putty you apply in a small circular motion before painting over it.

A series of photos showing how to apply the drywall repair putty

Promising review: "Does exactly what it says. Rather than getting spackle, waiting for it to dry, sanding it down, and tweaking as needed — this cuts the time/effort down! Just rub over the place in need of patching and wipe off the excess. The hardest part is not accidentally getting the product on parts of the wall that don’t need it, but that’s easy to clean up, so it’s not a problem. I used this to patch holes in the wall from a former Wi-Fi router and modem, other than the color difference from the patch to the paint, you’d never know it was patched. Great price, easy to use." —Amanda

Get it from Amazon for $10.95.

    26. For under $20 you can convert your recess lighting into pendant lighting using a simple conversion kit — super-gorgeous lights you get to pick out based on your taste and preferences not included.

A before and after photo showing the changes made with the conversion kit in someones kitchen

Promising review: "This was a pretty easy installation considering the work is on the ceiling. I've been wanting to change out the two can lights over my sink for years, so I started investigating the easiest possible way to do so. Ran across this item, and watched the video on YouTube. What the heck, I thought! Rewatched the video before installation, looked at the directions on both the converter kit and the pendant light, gathered the necessary tools described in all instructions, and set upon my mission. The hardest part (for me) was getting the self-tapping screws started. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome, I must say! By the way, I'm a 55-year-old female who has worked at a bank all of my life. Yes! It was that easy. I would highly recommend it." —Trisch Reeve

Get it from Amazon for $17.57.

    27. Or you can upgrade your recess lighting with easy-to-install medallions to help add a little character.

Get it from Amazon for $17.95.

    28. Get the appliances you've always wanted for a fraction of the price with a liquid stainless-steel fridge kit that'll help transform your giant icebox.

A before and after photo showing their fridge updated with the chrome paint

Promising review: "Absolutely LOVE this liquid stainless-steel paint! I had a black textured fridge, so I was nervous about how it would look, but it turned out great! Very easy to use. I removed the door handles (and primed them, as recommended, before painting), removed the bottom grill and snapped off the water/ice dispenser (I did not paint them). Cleaned the fridge and started rolling on the paint, then used the 11-inch foam tool to make it pretty! I did five coats (but really could have stopped at three). Then did three coats of the topcoat. I really did not notice a difference between one and three coats of the topcoat. I did all sides and the top of the fridge and still have enough left over for my double oven. Everyone has been impressed!" —robert

Get it from Amazon for $66.73.

    29. Give your house the perfect red lip by painting your front door a rich red color (or any color!)., Amazon

    32. Paint your cabinets to give your kitchen that just-remodeled feeling for pennies versus what it would cost to replace them.

Promising review: "Amazing! Amazing! Amazing. Did take more than one coat though. My cabinets were bare wood and I still needed a couple of coats. (Five to be exact, but that was just me being extra.) My kitchen is medium-sized, not too big, and it only took up one can. But I still went over a couple more times just to get a nice coating. I also let it sit for some days and saw the wood was sucking up the paint in some areas so I went over it again. The project ideally does take one day like the promotion video says, but one day as in 24 hours. This took my kitchen from looking like a cheap rental apartment kitchen to a high-quality kitchen with just this paint and new knobs. The paint is perfect for cabinets — it's not too thick, so you still see the wood grains. It comes with EVERYTHING you need. I didn't have to buy a thing. The project is super easy, paint dries fast, and I did it at first by removing the cabinets but it wasn't necessary at all. Just make sure you don't leave any dripping because it would make your cabinets look cheap. I would recommend EVERYONE to purchase this and give your cabinets a chance before making a big investment in new cabinets. Wood is wood and it can be refinished." —Brandon Moronta

Get it from Amazon for $69.95 (also available in gray, deep brown, mint, black, and white).

    35. And while you're at it a wooden peg board insert for your cabinet drawers will let you secure your dishes in an organized, safe, and completely efficient manner.

Promising review: "The minute I saw peg-drawer organizers for dishes I really wanted one. I looked at several units that were over $300 but just couldn't justify spending that kind of money for organizing dishes in a drawer. I was SO excited to find this one for under $100 and just hoped it would not be flimsy. It is NOT flimsy! It is very solid, made of laminated layers of plywood. The maple finish is beautiful and looks as good as the finish on my brand new cabinets. The pegs are tapered, larger at the bottom, and also feel substantial with a quality finish. I found this to be an excellent value for a peg-drawer insert. The only drawback is the number of holes. I will be drilling some extras where I need them." —Lil M

We use it to run our outside lights from dusk 'til dawn, and they turn on at just the right time at night, just as things are getting dim. It does require a neutral connection, so be aware of that. Programming was pretty easy once you get the hang of it, and once it is set you pretty much never touch it again and just take it for granted." —Bill

A closet with the adjustable clothes rack installed

Promising review: "This product has been a true lifesaver!! The installation was super easy. It took less than 10 minutes to put up. The product is very high quality. The poles are sturdy and don't sag, even under heavy loading. I've had this product for about a month and a half and it's held everything perfectly. The only suggestion I would give when installing is to make sure that you're suctioned adequately to the floor and ceiling. Securing the suction cups is critical. Promising review: "Easy to work with and looks amazing. Very happy with the product and my project. I put a thin coat of polyutherane, but I don't think it needs it since the paper seems very sturdy and the gloss finish is nice. I have already ordered two more rolls to finish my vanity and cover my drawers." —Johanna Calderon

    43. Create your own art and have something unique to cover your walls in with old wooden skateboard — okay, hear me out. Skateboard art is all the rage. Bright beautifully decorated boards, with a small piece of fishing wire wrapped through the holes, hang perfectly on your wall but they're also SUPER expensive per board (like hundreds of dollars, see example below). So, what if you bought a set of boards and painted/decorated them yourself? You could create one really intricate board that hangs perfectly on a pillar or small corner or an epic collage with all of them!

    47. And since you're painting, a package of insulating additive can — when mixed with your paint — help reduce heating and cooling expenses and deaden noise.

A bag of the ThermaCels - Insulating Paint Additive

When an insulating additive is mixed into paint, the paint dries to a tightly packed layer — this tightly packed film reflects and dissipates heat by minimizing the path for the transfer of heat. The ceramic in the additive can reflect, refract, and block heat radiation. It can be mixed into ANY paint, coating, or composite including interior and exterior house paint, roof paint, solvent-based coatings, epoxy, and high-temperature paint.

Promising review: "I painted the south wall of my house and it changed the temperature of those rooms significantly. What used to be the hottest rooms in my house by two to three degrees are now one to two degrees cooler than the rest of the house. I plan to paint the rest of the house but we are having triple-digit weather this week." —Lorelei A. Macomber

Get it from Amazon for $13.25+ (available in six sizes).
