A Tennesee Opera Company Is Putting On An Entire Show In Yellowface
Knoxville Opera of Tennessee is gearing up for their new show Madame Butterfly. With the entire non-Asian cast sporting makeup intended to make their eyes look stereotypically "Asian," as well as dressing in costumes mirroring traditional Japanese clothing, the show is drawing complaints of yellowface, exoticization of Asian culture, and cultural appropriation. Currently, the company has not yet responded to any of the complaints on its Facebook page.

I sat behind this kid in math class who would let me put cheat sheets with all the formulas inside his hood. If I needed them, I would tap his shoulder, and he would lean back so that I could see them. Not all heroes wear capes; sometimes, they wear hoodies.
