Life is not all butterflies and roses. Sometimes, it's plain thorns and rain hittin you all day long. People can suck, and so can life. But you know what? All of that is completely irrelevant. The matter is not what happens to us in life, but HOW we handle it. If we fall, do we get back up or stay laying down, waiting for someone else to save us. Get up, get going, and make the rest of your life the best days of your life. What are you waiting for.
Ever have one of those nights? One where you just can't seem to get back up on your feet. One where every good thought is followed by a bad one or a "what it"? We all have those dark nights, or even dark seasons in our life. But what matters is that we still try and see the light through it all. Even the stormiest nights, are followed by a beautiful sunrise. Whether it is listening to music, meditating, praying, talking to loved ones or even just being alone and reflecting, it is important to love yourself. Life is a process and it is all about time and letting yourself heal. For me, music is one of the best ways to do that.
Ever feel a chill go up your body when you catch yourself re-living something from the past? Whether it's the cinnamon candles burning on thanksgiving, the cigarette scent in a car or the smell of a burning bonfire in the breeze, it brings you back to that special moment. Well, music is just like that, but even more powerful. Not only the words, but the second the music drops, you feel the chill go up your spine and your heart drop, am I right? Whether it's an old song of you and a lover, or a song that reminds you of the beloved deceased, it has it's mark on you for life. There was music in the beginning of time. No wonder the human race has always enjoyed and created it, there's a reason why.
The power that music has to alter your mind can be good or bad. It can enhance your mood and make your day better. It can mend your heart when you are trying to heal about something, and it can bring back good memories. But it can also bring back pain. Sometimes the way music enhances something in our brain to feel more emotions can be very intense. For example, when stop listening to a song and you go back to real life, that is you coming out of that intense emotional state that listening to music put you in. Next time you listen to a song, think about how you felt before, during and after, and hopefully you will experience it yourself. Music is one of the most powerful things, other than communicating with words. That is the beauty of it, appreciating it in it's most artistic and purest form. Let it take you to another world, just for a few minutes. Let it be your escape.
A little about myself My name is Brooke Boatwright and I am a senior at UNCC, graduating in December. I study mass media communications and minor in journalism. I love singing and music more than almost anything, and I am also obsessed with dogs (my dog Ivy specifically). I hope to work in the corporate world when I graduate for either a media company, or honestly whatever pays best and is still enjoyable. I recently just moved at home so I can focus on school my last semester and not have to work. My dream is to become a singer, but until that happens, I think a good communications degree will do. I hope everyone has a great semester!:)
As we all know, there are all kinds of genres and styles of music. There is happy music, sad music, and even music you listen to when you're mad. When we are happy, it seems that we enjoy the music more and start moving our happy feet. When we are sad, it seems to be that we understand the music, over think and let it take over our emotions. It is a crazy thing how much power music can hold over our emotions, but it can also be a beautiful thing. Our mind is a powerful thing, and sometimes we forget that we care the ones who control is ultimately by what we fill it with.
Anonymous individuals in Charlotte have lost infants, children, parents, soulmates and other loved ones. Sharing your story or lyrics on social media is one of the best ways to express your pain, grieve and even help others.
I had the chance to interview a fellow classmate of mine, and he seems to think music can be very therapeutic as well. As I started to interview my classmate, he spoke of how music seemed to be a way to escape hardships, such as a hard breakup or whatever it might be, and really give you a way to cope with things and move on. He seemed to like all different kinds of music, and had fond memories of when he was younger, jamming out to backstreet boys in his room. Music really is a way to escape and even heal in a way, whether it be getting through a loss, breakup or anything that triggers your emotion. Music can pull your heart strings as well, and help you if you give it a chance. Of course not all people believe this or even like music, but is an honest remedy that has been around for centuries.
Hey guys, I hope you're all doing amazing. What to expect this semester from my blog is to get an inside look on people who have a passion and love for music, and how it helps them heal or even cope with tragedies or any kind of hardships. I cannot wait to meet and talk to these amazing people, and will be so humbled that they are will to be vulnerable to the public.
