19 Song Lyrics That People Completely Misunderstood

Believe it or not, Seal wasn't singing, "I've been kissed by the rose on the brain."

We asked members of the BuzzFeed Community to tell us which popular songs lyrics they had hilariously misheard. Here are some of those lyrics that they didn’t quite hear right…and that, maybe, you didn’t either.

    1. Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling!":

    Sony Music

"In Justin Timberlake's 'Cant Stop the Feeling!' he sings, 'I got this feeling inside my bones / It goes electric, wavy, when I turn it on,' and I thought he said, 'I got this feeling inside my balls / It goes electric, baby, when you turn me on,' and I was like 'Oh, haha.'"—616489

    2. John Mayer's "Your Body Is a Wonderland":

"My best friend used to sing 'Nevada is a wonderland' instead of 'Your body is a wonderland.'" —eisuneek2

    3. Madonna's "Hung Up":

    WMG

"I always thought that Madonna sang 'taco spice, so lonely' in 'Hung Up' instead of 'time goes by so slowly.' I felt so bad for that taco spice my entire childhood." —alicials

    4. Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You":

    Sony Music

"For years, I thought Whitey Houston was singing 'bittersweet man, Maurice' instead of 'bittersweet memories' in 'I Will Always Love You'!!!" —nicolef40bf857b5

    5. Seal's “Kiss From a Rose”:

"I thought Seal was singing, 'I've been kissed by a rose on the brain.' Why would you get 'kissed by a rose on the gray'? What does that mean?!" —cjblissell

    6. ELO's "Evil Woman":

"I was 17 and jamming out to the song in the car with my family and loudly singing, 'Medieval woman' in the chorus. I got some weird looks from my dad...'cause it's 'evil woman.' I'm still not convinced that isn't what they're singing." —pelfrey10a

    7. Enrique Iglesias's "Bailamos":

    Sony Music

"Until I was 22, I thought the line in Enrique Iglesias's 'Bailamos' was 'Te quiero amarillo' (which translates to 'I love yellow'). It wasn't until some friends and I were having a ’90s throwback on a road trip that I realized the words were 'Te quiero, amor mio' ('I love you, my love'). Guess talking about Enrique's love for yellow made sense to my 7-year-old self." —sareile

    8. Fun's "Some Nights":

    Fueled By Ramen

"What I heard: 'My heart is breaking for my sister / And the condom she called off.' What the lyrics really are: 'My heart is breaking for my sister / And the con that she called love.' I walked around school singing this like a freaking weirdo, singing about condoms!" —abbys4dc557ae5

    9. Toto's "Africa":

"For 30 fucking years I thought Toto sang, 'I missed the rains down in Africa.' The actual lyrics, 'I bless the rains down in Africa,' makes zero sense." —theempress97

    10. Drake's "One Dance":

    NBC

"I thought Drake was saying, 'I need a one dance / Thought I had a bee up my ass / One more time while I go / I had powers there I didn't know' instead of 'That's why I need a one dance / Got a Hennessy in my hand / One more time 'fore I go / Higher powers taking a hold on me.' WTF, me?" —maesan

    11. Miley Cyrus's "Wrecking Ball":

    RCA

"The lyrics for 'Wrecking Ball,' for the longest time I swore Miley was saying 'I came in like a rainbow' instead of 'I came in like a wrecking ball.' SMH." —serenity13

    12. Sia's "Chandelier":

"Everyone used to tell me how much they loved 'Chandelier' by Sia and I couldn't wait to hear it. Like two years later I googled it and was like...oooh, this is 'Chandelier.' Why the hell is it called that? I thought 'swing from the chandelier' was 'sweeeeeeet opportunity.'" —drowningoshawott

    13. Sheryl Crow's "The First Cut Is the Deepest":

    A&M Records

"One of my sister's friends thought the lyrics to Sheryl Crow's 'The First Cut Is the Deepest' were 'The first God is the Jesus.'" —Jordan Blankenship Sniker, Facebook

    14. Timbaland & OneRepublic's "Apologize":

    Mosley Music/Interscope Records

"Instead of 'it's too late to apologize,' I was convinced they were singing, 'It's too late to call the jive.'" —emmaw54

    15. Macy Gray's "I Try":

"From when that song came out and up until about a month ago I had been singing, 'I go bobos when you are not here,' and my boyfriend died laughing and corrected me, saying it's 'my world crumbles when you are not here.' Close enough." —seanpatrickr

    16. Bloodhound Gang's "The Bad Touch":

    UMG

"The lyrics to Bloodhound Gang's 'The Bad Touch' are actually 'Yes, I'm Siskel, yes, I'm Ebert / And you're getting two thumbs up.' I used to think the lyrics were 'Yes, I'm Sisqó, yes, I'm evil / And you're getting your thongs up.' In my defense the 'Thong Song' was a big hit at that time...and I was only 12!!!" —marklop

    17. Meghan Trainor's "Lips Are Movin":

    Sony Music

"I thought the line 'I might be young, but I ain't stupid' from 'Lips Are Movin' by Meghan Trainor was 'I might be dumb, but I ain't stupid.' Still think it fits pretty well with the song." —orangey4815

    18. Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie (Part II)":

"In 'Love The Way You Lie (Part II)' I used to think Rihanna sang 'Well, maybe I'm a Mexican' instead of 'So maybe I’m a masochist.'"—rasareac

    19. Panic! at the Disco's "I Write Sins Not Tragedies":

    Fueled By Ramen

"I thought the line from Panic's 'I Write Sins Not Tragedies' was 'Haven't you people ever heard of closing a garden door,' not 'Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door' — it wasn't until like three years ago when I sang along to it with a friend."—g44f422578
