Tom Holland Was Drunk And Cried When He Spoke To Disney About The Spider-Man Drama

It's a little unorthodox, but hey, it worked!

By now, you definitely know the story of how Spider-Man was briefly kicked out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Sony and Disney had a big falling out.

The brief version is that Sony and Marvel struck a deal in 2015 so that Spider-Man could appear in the MCU. However, when the studios couldn't reach an agreement for a third stand-alone movie, all hell broke loose.

However, after an outcry from fans, Sony and Marvel renegotiated a deal and, voilà, Spider-Man was back.

Rumours at the time of the drama said that Tom Holland, who of course plays Spider-Man, was instrumental in getting the superhero back into the MCU and had even contacted Disney boss Bob Iger.

But what we didn't know was that Tom was actually drunk when he took the call with Bob Iger, which somehow makes this story even better.

“We were at D23 and the news had come out and I was obviously devastated,” Tom told Jimmy Kimmel in a recent interview. “I was really upset. All my Marvel friends were there and they were taking Marvel pictures and I was like, not allowed to be in them. It was awful.”

Anyway, after emailing Bob to say thank you for everything, the Disney boss suggested that they jump on a call to talk about things and see if they could work something out.

There was just one small problem — when Bob called a couple of days later, Tom was in the pub and a little merry.

With some encouragement from his dad to just take the call anyway, Tom answered and had a chat with Bob about Spider-Man, which kickstarted the talks that sorted the mess out.

Tom even got emotional on the call with Bob because he "felt like it was all coming to an end" with Spider-Man and the MCU.

Couldn't have said it better myself. You can watch Tom's full interview with Jimmy Kimmel here.
